    Hello,

Last November and December I noticed a number of high quality ThinkPads on eBay. I bought a couple of T60p's with the Flexview screens and gave them to family members for Christmas presents.

For those of you looking for a X301 for your collection, you might want to check the listings. I bought one for $500 and it is literally new. Although it is technically 3 years old, it must have been in a box the entire time. There isn't a scratch on it, no keyboard wear, etc. The battery only has 4 cycles on it and they were recently started. There are no scratches on the bottom of the machine or battery.

I've been looking for a X301 like this for quite some time and I wanted to bring this to your attention in case you are too. I bought mine from Lenovo ThinkPad X301 Laptop/Notebook 008843433528 | eBay

Obviously there are no guarantees he'll have any machines left in the same condition, but there are numerous other machines for sale in eBay right now.

    Happy hunting!!!

And yes, my burger started again. Any guesses on my other find? :D

Hmm, $550 is somewhat expensive even if it's in near mint condition imo. Another $200 would get you into a more updated x220 sandybridge unit with full warranty.

My next unit will likely be an X240 :)

Yea, talk about collecting... You don't need to spend another 200$, you can get an e6220 with sandy bridge for that much...

Some people place a higher value on collectors items than the rest of the crap market.

I guess you think you should be able to buy a 66 Corvette for $5000, too.

The X30x is a pretty unique machine in a lot of ways, its thinness being one of them. I paid a premium for my X300 and I may do so again for an X301 later. Lord knows it's still quite a capable machine for a great many tasks. I wouldn't say it's a "collector's item", but it is still an interesting machine.

I'm with Quanger on this one; I'd go with an X220, but that's just me.

The X30x series is a nice piece of kit, but I'd spend my money on something else. That's just me.

X301 is a great laptop sure, but is it a "collector's" item? What about the 701C and Transnote? I've been trying to get my hands on one, 100+ for a 15 year old laptop is quite high.

i love both of mine X301... it is a classic.

In China they are still selling them for 1000 USD+ for a refurb model.

Considering used X301's used to be 1000 on eBay with no warranty just a few months ago, I think that is even worse. I might be picking up a used X61t on eBay soon, they have gone down to price points where I will pick up one.

    I agree 100% !

I bought my X301 new for almost $2300. Took me quite awhile to pay it off, but it feels great to know that I'm the orignal owner of such a fantastic machine. I knew I wanted one when the X300 came out, and when Lenovo refreshed it with the X301, I snagged it up.

My X301 is still SUPER mint ( only used 10-15 times at the most ) and I never plan to sell it anytime soon. It is one of the best quality made Thinkpads as of recently IMO.

If this new keyboard and what Lenovo is doing to the upcoming W530 is true, then I'll sadly be jumping ship into Apple land, with the supposedly new super thin Macbooks due to be released soon.

it really depends on how you see it. Some people pay top dollars for handbags with some monograms printed on them... Price of products reflect the demand.

Wait, so you're escaping a chiclet keyboard by... going to a brand with a chiclet keyboard?

Why not try the new keyboards first?

You should talk to Bill Morrow who still has several 701C units in various conditions left, and is willing to sell them. That's the best source for a butterfly on this planet IMO. I bought mine from him several years ago.

TransNote in good condition is not an easy find, and good luck with replacing its second CMOS battery. I sold mine for a pretty penny a couple of years ago, but it was really mint. Nevertheless, the darn second battery was dead and cost something like $50 at the time...plus I wasn't using the machine at all...so across the pond it went. Expect to pay a hefty premium for an excellent unit, because these are getting scarce indeed.

For those interested in X301, there will be a very nice example coming up on TPF, and no, I'm not the one in possession of it...never really cared for the model, although I do understand why so many people are in love with it...
