    Hey guys,

I got my X301 a few days ago, and promptly performed a clean install. I am loving the laptop, it is perfect for me.

I'm now just trying to set up the last remaining bits. I've followed the clean install guides in this forum but they don't really bother with GPS since it's not on all machines.

So what happens is that when I install Thinkvantage GPS, the latest version tells me that there is a problem with the GPS device ("let Windows look for an alternative online?") and with the previous version (2.11) the software loads, however does not respond. Start won't do anything, Stop won't do anything. Even going into the Help menu and trying to load one of the help options produces nothing.

Can anyone give me some advice on this?

I'm not sure if WWAN works as I don't have an active WWAN SIM to test.

    Thanks
    Michael

Which WWAN card did you get with the thinkpad? I read on another website that you don't need to have an active SIM to use the GPS but that you must have a SIM in the Thinkpad to use the GPS at all. If the SIM is activated, then you can also use the broadband capability. Try it out by sticking your phone SIM in there for a test run.

I have the Ericsson WWAN module in the X301. There is a SIM in it, the problem was with the software.

I've managed to fix it, so for anyone else who has the issue (most threads I found through Google contained no resolution) I resorted to uninstalling both the WWAN and the GPS, performing a System Update with the Thinkvantage update software, which first installed the WWAN, then reset the computer, enabled the WWAN in the connection manager (Fn+F5) and ran the update again. This time it installed the GPS and left me with it all working.

It wasn't the solution I desired (didn't want to use the System Update), but it works.

    Thanks
    Michael
