huh, well I'm actually seeing two people from Lenovo tomorrow so I'll ask straight up. I already know that the X40 series and T40 series are dead, as in the X41 and T43 are the last of that X4X T4X denomination. So if you want to start guessing which number they'll pick up with next, feel free to ruminate on that too ;)

It's not going to be the T50 or X50 either. hmmm.

I'm going with 50. It seems logical.

abaxter, where have you heard that the X4x is dying?

See, I've got evidence to the contrary:

    See for yourself: http://www-5.ibm.com/shop/pl/pc/notebooks/xseries.html

Anyway, I could have told you guys that it would be the X/T60... I figured they'd adjust the numbers to put it in line with the R series, which needed a jump to 60. The Z60 just proved that theory.

I was told by a person at Lenovo 2 weeks ago it would be the T60 and X60 to match the Z series, release date of February. No big changes though, just processor bumps.

I don't know why an X42 would be listed, mistake or jumping the gun maybe?

Are they going to release an update for the X tablet series? I'm hoping for a higher res screen and a better HD...

Even though the October tabook has been out for awhile, I only looked at it today. There's only one page of X32...I hope this means a X33 is coming soon!

The above shown/listed X42 seems to be more a website typo, since it's model number is from a X41 model and also if you click on the details view you will also get instead X41 specs listed.

ibbo: Yeah, I noticed that, as well.

vkyr: Over at thinkpads.com, we were thinking that that was a PLACEHOLDER, not a typo.

They did promise to keep the X30 line going when people got concerned the X32 would be last, but it's too soon for an X33. Maybe next Feb. at the earliest (there's definitely nothing coming before end of year), but I'd be guessing after that even.

However, there WILL be an X33?

Basically, in June, I'm going to be in the market for a new laptop. So... would you guess that the X33 will be out by then? If not, should I stretch this X21 longer?

Also, by "keep[ing] the X30 line going", how long time scale is that? Will the X33 not be made, and keeping it going simply means delaying the elmination of the X32? If that's the case, should I scramble to buy a fire-sale X32? Or hope that the X60 is sufficient?

And, no, the X41 will NOT meet my needs.

Well, I believe these are all questions nobody outside of Lenovo can actually answer you for sure now, so you would finally have to wait and see.

The TP X3x series has a strong acceptance among the administration league inside the bussiness sector of bigger companies. So I would usually assume that it would make sense for Lenovo to keep this line still running, as the T3x series offers some performance advantages over the T4x series.

So if the T3x series will be indeed refreshed, it would benefit from some overall architecture modernization (meaning chipset, CPU/GPU, RAM etc.). I believe that the actual sturdy X3x case would be able to support more moderate components and thus would be able to handle higher thermal designs.

However, if you can wait till June 06, keep your X21, wait and see if some T3x series refresher will be available till then. Otherwise, you could still then (in June 06) buy one of the X32 models which already might fit your needs.

Here's what I'm asking... If the X3 is going to be discontinued, say, before June 06, then do I rush to buy an X32, or do I hold out for a possible X60 or X70 (that would push this X21 two or three YEARS past what I was expecting, though), or possibly even a whole new series that meets my needs?

Also, how much warning would I have before the X3 would be discontinued? I'm relatively new to the IBM scene, so I'm not familiar with how they handle discontinuing an old series.\

And, no, used isn't an option. I've had too many problems with this X21 to go used ever again.

All I know is that, as vkyr says, the X3x series is popular in certain big companies and for that reason it's highly likely Lenovo will continue this series and they have stated to me that it will be continued -- somebody said the X32 was the end of the road when it came out and I said that in front of a Lenovo rep and he shook his head and assured me it would continue. As far as IBM ending a model series, there's no lowering of the flag/announcement or anything, it'd just kind of peter out and disappear from the Lenovo website after which you'd need to go to some reseller that has inventory still.

Abaxter, are you saying that the X40/X41 series will be discontinued completely or just the naming scheme will change?

    Hmm...

    More rumors.

    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17063

Edit: Removed something that I wasn't looking closely enough at...

I'll take the model change - I just wanted a WORTHY replacement for the X32. The X60 with the dual-core will do it. (FWIW, I've taken the numbering scheme from the Z60 to name the X60. X60t for the X41 replacement, X60m for the X32 replacement. Makes sense, especially if the "X60m" has a dedicated GPU.)
