I've got a 2-year old X41 I love. What bothers me is: very long startup time, occassional slow speed during routine usage, and terrible battery life. BTW, I'm still using the original batteries I bought, a 4-cell and an 8-cell.

Please send any suggestions you have regarding "cleaning" the X41 for better performance, and any tips reagrding buying new (and better) batteries.

    Thanks

Install Ubuntu. Or just try Ubuntu's Live CD without installing. You have nothing to lose.

    Post specs, processor and ram.
Have you done a clean install of whatever OS you're running?

I would say maybe it is time for a format and start fresh. A lot of times its Windows and not the computer thats the problem.

I agree with the other posters about cleaning or reinstalling Windows--it gets cluttered up over time. And lots of extra disk access as Windows fetches fragmented file bits all over the place would put more of a strain on your batteries. In fact, after 2 yrs your Li-Ion batteries might be aging as well.

I'd recommending cleaning up the OS first, then considering battery health afterwords...
