Question that might be better placed under the hardware section but I wasn't sure.

Anyway, going to law school this fall, and I was all set to buy the X41(walking a mile to school every day each way) with my credit card in hand. But funny thing happend, x41 tablet came out.
Questin, I know nothing about the tablets other then the demo on microsft.com. Would the tablet be a better choice for school? Since I will be primarly typing notes, papers etc daily.

Essentially what is the added benefit for my application? and is it worth the extra$?

You don't sound like a good case study for tablet. Generally you have to want the functionality for whatever reason, in your case typing will probably be faster than writing and you'll usually be seated when you type, so I don't see any reason to do the tablet. You can get more insight from our tablet site at www.tabletpcreviewspot.com

I personally tried a tablet pc and did not liked the way of inputting data. For me it was much easier/quicker to type than to hand write on the screen. Of course everybody has different preferences so it will be a good idea to try one at CompUSA or any other store that may have tablets on display(you will not be able to find IBM at least at the beginning). I assume that there will be also premium in the price in comparison with the X41.

I changed my mind after finding a tablet PC forum for students. They use One Note and GoBinder for taking notes which they seem to love with a tablet. I orderd a X41 tablet 60GB bluetooth, 512, Wireless A/B/G. 8 cell battery ( 18666SU)for 1999.00 plus 150 tax, free shipping using the EPP at Lenova.

I also order a 1gb RAM card from New Egg for 107.00.
4-5 week delivery is driving me nuts.

LOL, you know you were looking for an excuse to get the Tablet anyway and being a future lawyer you had to find a practical reason [ ;)] . I'm sure you'll find ways to use the Tablet PC functionality, if it's an extra $200 on top of the same plain vanilla notebook device then there's not too much to lose.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. As long as I can justify it somewhow, I sleep better. You were right about the cost too , I figure why not. It does everything a X41 notebook does plus has some additional functionality. Nothing to lose except $200 and .5lb. Possibly gain the tablet functionality that some people swear buy.

    http://studenttabletpc.blogs.com/the_student_tablet_pc/

There are forums there that are broken down by discipline ie Law, engineering , medical, liberal arts plus there is a section that discusses note taking and software. I didn't really even really think this whole sub-culture of students who use tablet PC even existed.
