I have a few questions regarding the X60 and X60s which I am now planning to purchase and use for university over the next few years.

    http://caipsgws001.can.ibm.com/store/family?type=fb&action=search&family=ThinkPad+X+Series
    1. in this configuration of the X60 (the 17068DU which is located at the very bottom of the page) there is a cdRW and DVD player included in the package. Is this a DVD burner too? Also, does this burner require the X6 docking bay to be functional?

    2. does the X6 docking bay include a DVD burner, or is the optical drive included empty?

    3. the 80GB hard drive seems to include only 2mb of cache as opposed to the 60gb drives which include 8mb. Is this a typo?

    4. when typing with the x60 without the extended life battery there seems to be a noticable tilt in the front end of the notebook which is elevated from the ground. Do users who type without the extended battery find that the notebook ever tilts up from pressure in the front end? I could see that being somewhat annoying.

    5. And last question ;). From users who have seen both the X60 and the X60s, is there much difference in the height and appearance of both of these notebooks, or is the difference only in the small weight differential. Also, does the x60s use much less battery than the x60 and is there any difference in heat?

Hopefully somebody knowledgeable will stumble upon this post and be able to answer these questions. I really appreciate your help! :D

The X60 17068DU is listed on www.visaperks.ca for $2061.71 CAN instead of the $2749 on lenovo's site.

    To find the X60 17068DU on visaperks.ca:
    1. on left side of screen select "Electronics and Computers" and click Search
    2. Click on the Lenovo link in the column labeled "merchant"
    3. Click "online shop now" , sends you to a lenovo site for visaperks clients.
    4. click Notebooks on left side
    5. scroll to X series, click "view all X Series"
    6. scroll till you find the 17068DU

    regarding yoru questions.
    1. It certainly looks like the CD-RW/DVD-Rom combo is included. But I can't tell it its an external one with its own inclosure or if it requires the X6 docking bay. There is no mention that the X6 docking bay is included so I assume it is not.

    2. As far as I know If you buy a docking bay from lenovo it doesn't include a CD-RW or DVD burner unless it explicitly states that it does.

    3,4,and 5 I can't answer

My X60 comes with a Matsh-ita UJDA765 DVD/CDRW burner. It is not a DVD Burner; it's just a 24x CD-R/24x CD-RW/24x CD-ROM/8x DVD-ROM -- Crap! However, my X41 Tablet PC, which comes with the X4 Ultrabase, does come with a DVD Burner. I am pretty sure both are compatible. Sorry, I cannot tell you right now because I loan it to someone and he's out of town...

The X60 doesn't have a built-in DVDROM drive. It's only available on the X6 Ultrabase. The pic below is the X6 Ultrabase, that is installed with the Matsh-ita UJDA765. And yes, the DVDROM costs extra - no freebies from Lenovo! By default, the dock comes with an empty slot reserved the a disc drive.

For some reason, we weren't offered the option to go 80GB. However, yes, the 60GB we have is 8MB according to Everest.

I don't recall having this problem...

I'll leave this to be answered by others as I have no hands-on experience on the X60s.

    Hope this helps!
