I know that there must be an option to have a dvd burner installed on an X60 system. While configuring one online I got to ultrabay slim options I couldn't tell my the descriptions but if I choose ThinkPad Super Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive - Flat Bezel [$259.00] is that the correct option to have a dvd burner. On the front page it said DVD recordable through optional X6 UltraBase does that mean I would have to have another attachment like a docking station or something in order to have the drive or will it be intact with the rest of the laptop?

There's no optical drive bay on the notebook itself, it comes in the docking station. If you absolutely must have it integral, I think the HP nc4400 has it (I'm not positive.) But ask yourself, how much do you actually use the optical drive? Also, don't feel attached to the Lenovo solution, you may be better off with a USB or Firewire optical drive.

The HP equivalent to the X60 also does not have a built-in optical.

You can buy a USB-powered optical for a lot less

The curve bezel super multiburner optical works on the X60 (also in the T60),and it costs only about Cdn$150 on visaperks.

An external is the cheaper option unless you want to get the xbase so you can hook it to an external monitor. The external will also be eaiser to carry than the xbase.

An external drive is cheaper but it takes more space on the desk than the UltraBase, which doesn't increase the footprint of the notebook.

also, the ultrabase can house an extra battery for insane hours of use. i wish the new x61 tablet will come with an optical but i doubt it. i only want the optical to watch dvd's on a plane so i guess the base won't be too bad since all it does it make it taller, not wider.

but yes, it is annoying carrying around a whole 'nother piece of equipment. =)
