Few days back I sent X60T (636346U) to IBM for repair cause it had a LCD bezel broken, fan noise and LCD was dull. The system had depot warranty till 8/8/10 but Lenovo just called and said it repairs would billable for 900 $. I haven't call them yet to ask why but searching forums seems the issue might be with the bezel being broken/crack and the system does not carry ADP (accidental protection).

I was thinking about (2) solutions:

    1) Repair the bezel my self and claim warranty again

    2) Search online for Warranty that includes Accidental protection. That includes 6363 models.

Any ideas how to go about it fixing it....

You should ask why you are liable for the 900 dollars cost. Also which part of the laptop did you damage yourself?

    1) that won't work, since they would have noted down which part was broken.

    2) even if you managed to get accidental protection, it would not cover any damages that it sustained before you got the extra warranty coverage. This basically makes your accidental warranty redundant, due to the fact that they already knew which part you damaged and therefore not covered under the Accidental protection warranty.

That looks like I can't do anything about it. Anyway I will get back here on Monday when I call them.

Well the women said that since its has LCD bezel crack, some parts to replace such as Fan and LCD which is not covered in the "scope of warranty" therefore I have a billable of 950$.

I don't understand why LCD replacement, fan is not covered in the scope of warranty. My warranty is "This product has a three year limited warranty and is entitled to EZServ/Depot service."

They're probably trying to stick it to you because they're assuming the LCD is dull due to a drop or mishandling on your part because of the cracked bezel. But the fan? I would push for them to repair that. It's in the scope of the warranty. It failed prematurely by no fault of your own. I would've repaired the bezel and messed up the LCD screen internally BEFORE sending it off. You should push for the fan most definitely, and try to get them to repair the LCD as that's probably the bulk of your 900 dollar repair bill. They'll never repair the bezel crack. Unless it spontaneously broke. Which they would never believe.

The IBM technicians states that the screen is dull due to LCD crack, although no crack is observable from outside. The cause of the crack is due to mishandling, i.e. accidents which is not covered in warranty.
I don't know how far that's true, I never personally unscrew the LCD to see it.

since they have voided your warranty, you could take the initiative and have a look at the crack on the LCD yourself.

Escalate it to a manager. Though if you were act fault for the lcd I guess just have them fix the fan and you can repair your bezel yourself. The dullness...you might just have to deal or replace it yourself.

Is it possible to do full repair using third party Thinkpad Warranty service provider? Since I have ADP now (will be in-effect soon). Would they know that IBM did not repair my machine?

Thanks I found my LCD to be 13N7215
12.1 XGA TFT, protection plate, digitizer assembly G4.

Now I am confused because most of LCD I came across are RAW, without digitizer assembly and protective plate selling for new for 150$. I dont know whether my current LCD has issues with protection plate or digitizer (In fact I don't know what they are even). So I found couple with protective plate and digitizer but price shoots to 500$. How can i determine if Protective plate is even there on my current LCD or how to find how if its working fine and the digitizer.

    thanks

the digitizer should be integrated into the LCD as one single unit, i don't think you buy it separately.

So is buying a raw LCD without protector and digitizer is pointless. Can I transfer protector and digitizer from the old LCD?

I asked (indirectly) one of the tech rep from lenovo, they keep case records for 90 days. I might be able to repair it for free after 90 days by acquiring ADP when case is past 3 months.
