    Hello all,

Thank you, in advance, for any suggestions that you may have.

After lurking around these forums for a bit, I took the plunge and put an order for a X60. Interestingly, the first laptop I ever owned was an IBM thinkpad ultra-portable too - then, I went Japanese (Fujitsu) for 3 generations, before returning to an IBM/Lenovo.

I wonder if there's a 'weight saver' option available for the X60 - I'm not sure if I'm being clear on my question, so I shall try to elaborate a little.

The X60 I ordered will come with an 8-cell battery (which sticks out somewhat), and an additional 4-cell battery (which is suppose to sit flush with the case). It will also ship with 2 AC adaptors (apparently one for the office, one at home).

I'm wondering, if I'm using the X60 at home or at work, I wouldn't really need to have the batteries plugged in - apparently, that's bad for battery life, I've been told.

If I leave the batteries 'unplugged', my X60 looks like it's moth-eaten, with a huge ugly hole in it's backside.

Is there a cover I could purchase somewhere/anywhere, that I could snap on to cover that hole?

    Thanks for your help again!

    Cheers,
    wobbles

welcome to the forums, I wouldn't worry too much about the using a "weight saver" in the back of the X60 for when you're plugged in. There's little to no effect on the battery being left in the laptop, and with Lithium-Ion the battery will experience deterioration over time even if you don't use it (i.e. putting it in the closet for a year means it'll lose some ability to lose charge anyway).

Check out the battery guide for more information.

The other thing to think about is that if the power goes out or someone kicks the wire while you're plugged in and you have no battery in, then you lose all that work you hadn't saved, with a battery the machine would just jump to battery power.

Thanks Andrew :). I was concerned, because different people have told me different things. I've had a chance to read the link you so kindly provided: GODSENT :)

Thank you very much, and I'm so glad to have stumbled upon the forum!
