I plan on getting one of these, but first I need to clarify a few things.

First, to anyone with experience with the eight-cell battery, how much weight does it add and do you find it bulky (does it make it uglier?) or unwieldly?

Also, what sleeves do you recommend that will fit the laptop with the extended battery?

    How is the wireless signal?

How bad is the graphics card - would I be able to play ANY games with it or any graphically intensive programs?

    1. 0.5 lbs over 4 cell and 0.6 pounds over 4cell-slimline. I did feel it bulky and somehow defect the meaning of being an UP machine. My solution is a combination of 4cell slimline+8cell

2., 3., and 4., I have not much experience here.

about the wireless, some ppl had some very serious issues with the intel 3945 crashing it. The thinkpad wireless has an atheros chip, which is considered to be better, and indeed it's quite strong. But it uses more power and it also creates very noticeable heat under the right palm when used for long.

The 8-cell battery is a must if you want good battery life. It's not at all ugly, tho it adds to the weight significantly. About half a pound or so. The battery extends out the back a bit across the whole back of the laptop. It is good because when you hold the laptop up in you arm with one hand (as you can easily do because of the light weight), then you have something to grip onto securely. This is very good for presentation or writing on whiteboards with one hand while holding/reading from you laptop with the other hand.

There is no graphics card, it's the integrated intel 950 graphics... will perform same on X60 as any other machine equipped with that. It's not a gaming machine. It's an ultraportable.

the former has more powerful core2duo and coreDuo processors, the latter has low voltage processors that use slightly less power, tho that advantage is mitigated by the ability to change your power settings. The S is about a tenth of a pound less in weight, or more when the ultralight screen is selected (which has about 30 more nits).

I'd recommend the S if you can get it for the same price, unless you need a more powerful processor.

Thanks a lot for the input so far.

Last question: will there be a better sale this summer than the memorial day one?
