I'm planning to buy a X60 and have been waiting until they become generally available to place my order (which I'm assuming will be at least another month).

    I have 2 questions:

    1. I want a real light machine so I'm thinking that I go with the X60s. It seems like the big difference between it and the X60 is processor speed and the thickness of the case. How is the X60s able to be thinner? Is it just that less cooling is needed because of the slower processors? Or is there something else I should know about that makes it slimmer?

    2. tabook shows one model of the X60s with an ultralight display and I've seen it mentioned here a few times. Do we know anything about this? Will it make that particular model even lighter than other X60s models that are otherwise similarly equipped? Or will it be roughly the same weight but just significantly better than the display in other X60s models?

    Thanks.

Here is what Lenovo advertises so far:

    X60s:

    - Weight starting at under 2.7lbs (1.22kg), X60s is lighter than X41
    - Footprint starting at 268mm x 211mm – Ultrasmall footprint with a full-sized keyboard
    - 12.1” UltraLight XGA panel is 25% lighter and up to 20% brighter when compared to standard 12.1” XGA panel
    - Maximum battery life improved by as much as 37%: as long as 8.0 hrs with standard 8-cell High Capacity battery, up to 11.0 hrs by adding X60 Series Extended Life battery

    X60:

    - Weight starting at 3.15lbs (1.43kg), X60 is 12% lighter than X32
    - Footprint starting at 268mm x 211mm – Ultrasmall footprint with a full-sized keyboard is 7% smaller than X32
    - Maximum battery life improved by as much as 33%: as long as 7.8 hrs with standard 8-cell High Capacity battery, up to 10.7 hrs by adding X60 Extended Life battery.

    In sum up:

    X60s and X60 thin as 0.79” (20mm)
X60s as light as 1.22kg, lighter than X41
    X60 as light as 1.43kg, 12% lighter than X32

...maybe that answers your questions or would be of help for you (?).

I thought the super light(2.7lbs.) ones were only being offered in Japan.

Don't know for sure..., the Lenovo document I have taken the above shown statements from, doesn't explicitely tell if certain X60/s variants are only regional (e.g. asia) available. - Further it also doesn't tell if the shown weight values are calculated without or with including battery.

But they say there to weight and dimensions...

    X60:
    - weight 1.43kg (3.15lbs)
    - dimensions 268mm x 211mm x 20 – 35mm (10.5” x 8.3” x .79-1.39”)

    X60s:
    - 1.22kg (2.69lbs) [ 1.15kg/2.5lbs - JP]
    - 268mm x 211mm x 20 – 27mm (10.5” x 8.3” x .79-1.10”)

...so according to these shown datas the X60s is about 0,21kg slightly lighter and also 8 mm less high on it's back side in contrast to the X60.

From the above for the X60s Japan (asia) vs. the rest of the world...

    - weight Japan: 1.15kg (2.5lbs)
    - weight normal: 1.22kg (2.69lbs)

There are no 2.7lb models on the website, but the announcement letter for the US lists them, so you can apparently buy one here. I can't imagine using a laptop that light, but I know people who like them. I'll stick with my T42p until I can get my hands on a T60p.
