I'm about to make a move on the x60s using a student-rebate. Although different
stores seems to have different versions of it (eventhough it's supposed to be
the same deal (I guess)).
Anyway, the two different versions I've seen so far is UK037SW and 1702.
I'd want the 8-cel battery and as far as I know both versions have. The only
difference that I can see is that the UK037SW only has a 40 gb disk, any other
differences? Like EV-DO antenna?
There are a couple of 1702 models in tabook.pdf but only one with an 80 gb harddrive and without the ultrabase, so that would be the 1702-58U (assuming that the specs are correct and that it has a 80gb drive).
UK037SW doesn't exist in the tabook.pdf so I can't be sure of anything (pretty much all stores list specifiactions that doesn't match the model).
40 gb harddrive isn't that great but atleast something thats replaceable (which I guess an EV-DO antenna isn't?)
Does the UK037SW (which I guess is an UK version? (I live in sweden)) exist in tabook.pdf with another name?
Does anyone have experiences using the student-rebate here in sweden?
Also, what does Workhorse (GBL) stand for in tabook.pdf?
The price is the same.
Perhaps there are more models that I haven't found yet too. Or that they just have listed the wrong model (along with wrong specs. Like an x60s with an T2400 CPU (doesn't exist as far as I know) for instance).
Quite sad that you can't buy something as expensive as an laptop and not be sure of what you get (not blaming lenovo, this is unfortunately common).

The store listing the 1702 apparantly had listed the wrong model.
They say that it is a UK055SW (article id). Theres something on the paper called MTM (model something?) that is 170255G. And that looks like something from tabook.pdf but it doesn't exist there (my first guess was that tabook.pdf was obsolete but it says august 2006 so...).
Their speccs are an 80 gb drive but with an 4 cel (2000 mAh).
Guess that that is the slim 4-cel battery?
Bummer
I haven't gotten in touch with the other store yet so I haven't got any confirmation on the specs but if it does have an 8 cel battery I'm thinking of going for it.
Wonder if the harddrive is much slower also (older drive) or if it's just smaller.
Harddrives are cheap but I don't think I will need that much space in an ultraportable anyway so I don't think I will upgrade it in the near future (so if it's slow that must be taken into account before making the decision).
But I'd guess that they are from the same harddrive-family and having quite similar specs.
Ok. just googling for UK055SW gave me this site:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/se/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_UK055SW?OpenDocument
Only speccs that don't seem to match my papers are height. Which says 20mm on the site and 28 mm on my papers ?
Perhaps the site is listing the lower part and the papers are listing the heigher? Or has there been a mixup with the x60 (not s)?
Just changing UK055SW for UK037SW gave me this site:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/se/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_UK037SW?OpenDocument
That confirms 40gb harddrive and an 8-cel battery.
Will probably just order that one...
Or have I overlooked something else?
EDIT:
Doh
The UK037SW doesn't seem to have bluetooth
But it has "repair" added to it in "type of service". Whatever that means
edit2:
perhaps it's possible to add bluetooth support yourself?
Within the chassi (not a fan of USB devices that sticks out).
edit3:
Leaning towards the UK037SW anyway. It's in stock and I really dig the 8-cel battery.
edit4:
I ordered UK037SW today and it will arrive tomorrow
X60s different models...
