Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I think I should've read this forum earlier!

I've always been an avid user of IBM as I have the T41 at home and the T42 at work. I'll be starting grad school in a couple of months and wanted an ultra portable laptop so I got the X60. I am ashamed to say that I didn't really do my studies before buying and am now thinking of returning the X60 for X60s for the battery life. I'll mainly be doing just browsing, chatting, word processing and running iTunes.

    I got the 1.66 Ghz + 512 MB + X6 Ultra Base + 8-Cell Extended Battery

I just read on a bunch of reviews that the X60s run about 8 hours (or 6 hours according to the review on this forum) on the extended battery. Here are my questions:

    1) How about the x60? Anybody has experience running the extended battery on the X60? How many hours did you get?

2)Also, I know the performance on the X60s is not as good as X60 but will it be enough to notice a difference?

    3) Also, I'm also thinking of adding 1G RAM in addition to my exiting 512MB RAM, will that decrease the battery life as well?

    4) The Intel Core Duo 1.66Ghz is equivalent to a what of the Centrino or the M Processor?

Sorry for these questions but I'm kind of confused! Thanks in advance!

    1. Run your laptop dry and see how much you get.

    2. Dont have it yet, so i dont know

    3. It may but it will be in the order of a few minutes

    4. Centrino is the name they use to describe there package of CPU, WIFI, and Mobo. There is no pentium M speed equivalent because penitum M stopped at 2ghz while this one is completely new and started at 1.5. So its just faster.

Just on the RAM, get the extra 1 GB. Your computer will run faster and you may get longer battery life, because there will be much less swapping to the hard drive.

From what you are doing I doubt you will notice a difference.

Really? It will actually increase battery life? Wow, that's good to know. Well I could get the X60s and still get the 1GB RAM, the battery will run much longer than the X60 + 1GB RAM. :)

So you guys think I should keep the X60? I don't know, since I'll be hauling this laptop around, battery performance is important to me.

Well, I didn't say that battery life will increase, I said that's a possibility simply based on the power consumption of RAM versus a hard drive. With 512 MB RAM you are likely to use the hard drive much more than with 1 or 1.5 GB. I don't know how this translates in terms of battery life but if there is a change at all, the battery life should increase rather than decrease.
