    Hi,
I followed the great guide on the forum for the clean installation of XP and now I'm experiencing some relatively minor issues.

I can't seem to fully install all of my hardware drivers and I am left with :

    *Unknown device
    *SM bus controller

I think that the second one is the sd card reader but I have no sd card to check the drive with and make sure. the drivers from lenovo's website for that drive do not match (also by the instructions of the driver installation it is recognized as pci drive and not SM bus...)

I also can't seem to get the thinkvantage blue key to work.

aside from those , the notebook is completly usable. I just wish to complete this os installation fully without leaving anything undone.

    my setup is:

2.2 Ghz . 3GB RAM, 7200 RPM 100GB HD, originally Vista Home and now XP professional, BT, fingerprint reader.

I have also made backups of the vista via the thinkvantage software before formatting the hd. could I extract the exact drivers vista had used in order to clear all of these new issues with XP?

    Please advise you guys,
    thanks in advance,

    Amir

During the clean install, did you delete the hidden partition that has the Lenovo restore files in it? If so, I doubt the blue button would work anymore. If not, never mind. :)

no I didn't delete it, and I also figured it was that so I was willing the sacrifice the 5gb or so of it and keep it intact (though I wasnt even sure if that could work on the different os I was about to install, since it was originally vista oriented)

Yes, it was very well written but
I'm afraid it was perhaps a little trickier to pull with the X61 than the T60 it was originally written for.
I had to skip some stages of it and improvise along the way.

    Which stages did you skip?

by going over the process roughly and from what I can remember:

both of the ultranav related drivers I couldnt find on the lenovo website in the x61 drivers page
    same with the atmel tpm
I tried following the sd reader instruction but I could not find "pci device" under new hardware
I downloaded the hotfixes but have no idea where to put them (Windows has been updated though)

in the begining of the driver installation process I could only install one or two of the following three:

    Intel 3 Series Chipsets

Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows XP

    RAID/AHCI Software

if I remember correctly I could not find 3 seperate files by following your links (one of them was a mirror of another)

that's all that I can remember, I also took the liberty on installing some additional drivers/software I found on the x61 drivers page on the lenovo website.
I tried to run the help feature of the thinkvantage software and try to locate any missing drivers, but the wizard couldnt find anything in addition I should download and I got a message saying everything is good and up to date

Since the X61 only has a trackpoint, you will only have one driver for that. I don't believe the X series have Atmel TPM, it could be unknown device though.

When you say SD Reader, I assume you mean this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67470

You don't need to know where to put the hotfixes, it installs them automatically.

And those links are not mirrors. Once you select your operating system, it'll list different drivers/software depending on the link you choose.

Here is a solution to the SM bus controller: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-013541.htm

As for the unknown driver, that might be Atmel TPM: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58054

Excellent! you were spot on with both the SM and the Atmel TPM driver :)
    Many thanks !

You obviously know your way around these things...any idea why the Thinkvantage blue key is not responsive anymore?

    Thanks again!

True :) ,so true I was seriously considering paying the extra $60 and have mine ship with XP professional instead of Vista Home.
All ended well though after the long process and difficulties I encountered I managed to get XP professional running on it, and as a student ,for much cheaper than $60...

Got the Thinkvantage Key to work , the system is flawless and I'm a happy man.

Thanks all for the support. :D
