My X61 type is 7675-A31. Since it only have 1Gb memory, so I decide to upgrade to make the system run more smooth. I choose the 2*2Gb kit from Crucial (model number CT2KIT25664AC800). But after install the memory, my system doesn't boot at all, I only hear 4 beeps sound and have a blank, dark screen. Although I try to install only one stick, the symptom is the same.

Does anybody have the same problems like me  I greatly appreciate your helps.
p/s: Going to update the bios as soon as I have my battery back :) My current bios version is 2.07.

Try placing in one 2gb stick and figure it out from there. Oh ya make sure it is seated correctly!

I have Crucial RAM in all of my machines. Are you sure its fully seated in the socket and snapped all the way down (both directions)?

I have the 7675-4KU and upgraded from 1Gb to 4Gb from Crucial using their Memory Advisor Tool and it works just fine.

I've tried this but it doesn't work  Also updated the bios to version 2.11 (date 2008-03-24).
Pretty sure it is fully seated in the socket :)

According to the manufacturer, the bus of my memory stick is 800Mhz, but the X61 only supports 667MHz memory bus. I don't think it is the reason but why?
p/s: Going to try to install it in my friends' notebook

Tried it on a Dell Inspiron 1505 but it doesn't work at all. May be I'm not lucky and this is a bad module (although I don't think both sticks are bad :( ).

    Still looking for your helps.

I have the same experience but i was able to figure it out. when changing or upgrading memory make sure you power off and not hibernate your laptop.

Installing faster memory than the northbridge (chipset) supports is perfectly acceptable and is very commonplace. I can't offer a solution but you can eliminate that as a source of failure.

My word, please make sure you do a complete shutdown (not hibernate) and pull the battery. I can only imagine the havoc trying to do a "running" upgrade would cause.
