    Hello all,

I am working on purchasing an X61 7675-A48 from Tokyo, and having it sent to me here in L.A. I have a couple questions:

    > Can the keyboard be easi;ly swapped for a USA one?
    > Is the BIOS also in Japanese? If so, can it be easily flashed into US/English?

    Thanks

i couldnt find one anywhere else so i had a friend get me one in tokyo. I paid him $1400 with shipping to the US and some extra for his troubles.

when i got the X61, it was really fast, but the HDD was only 160GB/5400 and RAM is 1GB

    I upgraded to a 320GB Scorpio Black and 2x 2GB of Crucial DDR2-800

Owned. US keyboard, US OS. Why you go to the land of high prices to buy a laptop is beyond me. Next time do some research before throwing your money away. But I guess a fool has to part with his money somehow.

First of all zephir maybe YOU SHOULD DO SOME RESEARCH.

    7675-A48 = T9300, 2.5GHz, 6MB L2 cache

    eBay system you posted = T8100, 2.1GHz, 3MB L2 cache

    Have some respect for others.

    Immature.

While zephir was being really immature, I still don't think it was worth the price premium for 400mhz and some cache :\. Swapping the keyboard should be doable and I imagine the bios flash isn't too difficult to english (if you even need to touch bios).

whether anyone except brainiac88 thinks this is "worth it" is absolutely irrelevant.   the fact of the matter is that he wanted the fastest X61 made and found a way to get it. ;)

to answer the questions at hand, the BIOS will be in english and the keyboard is easily swapped by removing four screws.

Yes, I'm so immature that I know it's not worth double the amount of money to pay for a cpu
Once you get to a different chip architecture, the slight increase in clock speed is never worth it. But hey, as long as you're happy with your purchase, that's all that matters.

Zephir that has nothing to do with your maturity. You can still give your opinion and act like an adult. Notice how I said I didn't think it was worth it to me...

Yeah you're right. Oh well, if he thinks it worths it then that's all that matters, since it's his money. Either way, I still think it's ridiculous to pay double the amount for a slightly better cpu. If you do a performance vs. cost assessment, it's just not worth it. Also, to topic creator, better check that warranty as some warranty is not international. You may have to send it to Japan to get it fixed if some problem arises

Also, there's quite a few X61 with T8300 on ebay. This is the cpu with clockspeed 2.4 GHz, which is only 100MHz less than the T9300. Double the amount of cache will also just result in a minor performance gain, so in general, not worth it.

Back to the topic: yes, you can replace the keyboard with us keyboard, flashes bios with the lenovo english bios, and install a us OS on it.

    Thanks for the replies.

I know its not worth the extra $ but it was a good deal at the time and its nice to know that its there. I'm the one with a 95 civic with 165000 miles coz i know a new ride aint worth it. there are people who'd drop $50 on a rib eye at a swanky joint while others can get a lesser steak for $14.95 at sizzler.

The new KB was $45 and BIOS was in English already.

    Well, at least you're future-proof for a while ;)
But yea, try to check your warranty to see if it is international warranty, otherwise you may have to send it over to japan if you ever encounter issues
