What's the reason for that my thinkpad fan running constantly and making noise all the time? Thanks

You could have a lot of dust clogged in the heat vent, which will make your computer run hotter and thus the fan to run at higher speeds constantly. Or, you could have some background process that is constantly eating up CPU power that makes your computer run hotter.

you could try tpfancontrol, it will show you the temp (shows same as coretemp on my x61s), and allow you to use different fan profiles. At most, i put it at level 1, which is not noticeable in a room with regular noise (tv) and it never goes over 55c, even when doing countless Photoshop filters on 10MP NEF files.

dani_spain, i think i have the same problem as you do. The fan keeps on going and it makes a sound like there is something in the fan. I took my X61 apart and look at the fan, it's not clogged with anything. I cleaned it with a dust blower, but it keep making that annoying sound. I think i will change it after all. i saw it's like $50 a new one. The only problem is that i don't know the FRU and i am too lazy to open it again just to look at the number on the fan

by the way, can anyone tell me what is a normal temperature of the CPU? is between 60 and 66 Celsius normal?
thank you -
is that with the fan on or off? if its on, that would be too high, imo.
What is the exact model number of your laptop on the bottom? -
x61 76754ku. the fan starts and stops regularly using tpfan control

apparently if i set the value to 1,2,3,4 or 5 the fan makes a wired louder sound than if it is set at 7.
and with the fan set at 7 all the time the temperature is between 49 and 55. Is that better?
Thank you -
This is the FRU if you want to buy
42X3805 -
thank you very much
