I like the high res of the X61 tablet, which has wide viewing angles. The only issue I have with it is the screen is all sparkly, and it seems that the best viewing angle is actually right in front of it. The sparkling effect is not pleasent, and affects the whites and colors, make them well like sparkling.
The panel model is Lenovo HV121P01-101
Sparkly as it seems there is some kind of film on it, that I cannot clean off?
I read somewhere around here that it is due to some kind of protective writing surface that is glued onto the panel.
Is this true, about such a protective surface? If so if I get rid of it, and how do I do it safely?
I dont care about ever having to use the digital pen again, I never use that for anything anyway. If the protective surface is removed, then will it make a good improvement to the viewing angles and get rid of the sparkling effect?

The issue that you're describing has been discussed over and over both on TPF and Lenovo's forum, here's the long and the short of it:
a) You can't remove the protective film. Not without damaging the screen anyway.
b) If you can source a -100 panel (the original revision used in X60T) you're likely to be happy with the results. No sparkling and no bubbling on these.
Good luck. -
Thanks heap for your answer.
I did do more searching, but was not clear about it, as there are some people that are saying that can be removed with the 101 screen, although more likely than not other were saying.
Is there anything without replacing the screen I can do with the 101 to make it better? -
-
So basically what you are saying is with 101 screen it is worse than than the 100 screen, even without the film removed?
-
But overall - yes, my opinion is that for "as-is" use (e.g. not for modding) the earlier revision (100) is a better one indeed.

there is no "film" to be removed here. it's glass with an anti-glare coating. the combination of coating and textured surface are what cause the so-called sparkle effect.
having removed the writing surface from a -101 panel once, i can say from experience that it's both a painstaking, tedious process and a dangerous one at that. the surface is a thin layer of glass held on by a semi-viscous clear adhesive that's not easily de-bonded from the stainless frame. it can be done but will require half a day's labor, most of which is clean-up work from the adhesive. this assumes you were even remotely successful in removing the writing surface without scratching the LCD, damaging the frame or panel, breaking the CCFL tube, or getting adhesive everywhere. the -101 panel is no joke.
like ajkula66 suggested, get yourself a -100 panel that still has the polycarbonate writing surface attached and preferably the digitizer as well. you'll also need an X60T LCD cable since the X61T cable is too short on the digitizer lead.
the easiest solution is to get a complete X60T SXGA+ system and swap upper assemblies. you could then sell the resulting mismatched system and recoup a fair amount if not profit.
hope that helps. -

I can't speak for the X61t, but the touch surface I removed from the HV121WX4 LCD looked like glass. It broke when I dropped it in the trash can.

My particular X61 with 101 is fairly old (as they all are I guess), and the screen is in mint condition. I cannot justifiy the cost of replacing it just for the sparkly effect. Therefore if what you guys have said holds true, then there really is no point in replacing it with anything else, given the fact on how old it is now.
If it is glass then it should be strong, I would think. Maybe not so strong then, as posted above?
The only last thing, when ever I touch the screen with my fingers, it leaves like really oily finger prints. Is this normal, or has someone tried to clean the screen with some kind of solvent? -
