I've been using my X61 for around 6 months now and all of a sudden the corner with the IBM Thinkpad logo no longer sits on an even keel on the desk; its actually hovering several centimeters off..which is disturbing to say the least.

Strangest thing is all 4 corners sit on an even keel when I am using it with the 4-cell battery removed?

What gives? Is my X61 warped or something?

no, it probably has something to do with the battery.

Examine the battery and see if it's warped at all.

Place the laptop (battery-less) on a completely flat surface and lower your face to eye level. Examine the laptop from all sides and see if there is any uneveniness in the build.

it sounds as if when you put the battery into the computer, the weight is pushing the back end down, making the front end lift. try what Arkit3kt suggested. if it is warped, just send it into IBM and make them fix it.

    Centimeters or millimeters?

Are you missing a rubber foot from the bottom of the laptop or battery?

I have the same problem with my T61. The right front rubber does not touch the surface. I think it's probably raised by millimeters.

yep..my t61...the front right leg sits a few mm up ...but i don't think it's because the chasis is warped...i think it is due to mass distribution on the notebook...the heatsink is on the left along with the other more heavy components..therefore puting more weight on the left and raising the rubber footing on the right..

this was done purely through mass and center of gravity analysis I did at my school lab. The back left side of the notebook has the most mass...therefore throwing off the center of gravity balance

the center of gravity for the t61 is located in the 2nd quadrant

SEVERAL CENTIMETERS? you realize that would make your laptop look like a banana, right?
