My INTERNET service goes through my desktop. My desktop see the X61 but can't see its properties (printers drivers). All actual printers are connected to the desktop. The X61 can't see my desktop at all.
I had no trouble doing this for several laptops with XP but I can't get it to work with the X61. Any help would be appreciated.
X61 has no trouble getting to the INTERNET obviously because I'm sending this thread.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hi Deerhead,

I have an X61 too. Here are a couple of things to check:

    1) Is your desktop on XP and your X61 on Vista? I tried to set up the network printer on my X61 and just couldn't get it to work. The desktop is connected to my printer and I tried to 'search' for the printer on my X61. In my case, the printer driver could be found but I just could not install it.

I finally got it resolved by turning ON the Use Access Control feature in Vista (UAC). UAC is this irritating thing in Vista which makes you say 'Yes' to every single file copy operation you do. I turned it off in the Control Panel (there's an option to turn it off). BUT when turned off, you CANNOT install the printer drivers. So you have to turn it ON, install the printer driver then turn UAC OFF again.

    Silly Vista.

Try temporarily disabling the firewalls and see if that makes any difference.

Windows Firewall is probably on by default. Go to the User Accounts, and choose to Turn User Account Control on or off. (It's the bottom link in that window).

I still say the firewall is the problem. Go to Windows Firewall in the Control Panel and disable it temporarily. Then go to your desktop and type the name of your laptop computer like this: \\yourcomputernamegoeshere in the Run box.

Have you looked at the Network Sharing Center? You should have

    Network Discovery : On
    Filesharing : On
    Printer Sharing On

I have the same configuration you do and my T61p has no trouble using the printer of my Vista desktop using wireless.

If the network path is not found, the problem is that some firewall is blocking the access or the network has a problem. I've done this many a time.
