So I've had an x61 for a couple years and after using the x301 for the last 6 months, I've noticed the x61 brightness is pathetic compared to the x301. It's been bothering me so much that I even tried to downgrade from win 7 on the x61 to XP (x301 has XP) because I thought it was a windows issue. Fired up Windows Explorer to compare the brightness and the x61 is pathetically dull.
So I convinced myself it was an old lenovo vs new lenovo issue and thought the x200 would solve the issue. Luckily my cousin has an x200 (7479) and to my surprise, its brightness also was pathetic compared to the x301. What gives? Could it be because the x301 has an WXGA+ TFT screen? Is the x200's WXGA+ screen as bright as the x301's TFT screen?
I was holding out to buy an x201s. Will that finally solve my problem or do I need to suck it up and get another x301?
Thx in advance

The X301's screen is about 50% brighter than the X200.
-
And the x201/s has the same brightness as the x200, right? My wife's brand spanking new t400 is so damn bright..more than the x301! What gives with these 200s?
It must be the TFT technology because both the t400 and x301 is TFT and the x200's don't have TFT. So the WXGA+ doesn't improve brightness? -
they're all TFT. TFT = thin-film transistor.
brightness is determined by the backlight and nothing else. -
Where on lenovo does it list the level of backlight so I can see that the x200s are less bright than the t400 and x301?
-
-
x301 = 300 nits
x201 = 200 nits
t400 = 200 nits
but t400 is brighter than my x301. so... -
If something is too bright it can always be turned down.

All X201(s) are supposed to be LED (not sure about the nit rating though). -
I guess we should point out that the Tseries has a lot of different screen options too. The x series tablets have multiple screen options as well.
Edit: Also the x200 (at 200nits) is brighter than the x61. I find it to be plenty bright inside. -
My wife has the t400 2764 which isn't listed on that TAT. I have a feeling it has the "high NIT" designation but what is the number on that exactly? -
one nit is the same as one cd/m^2 (candelas per square meter). it's a measurement of luminance.

X61 screen not bright; x200 doesn't seem to be a solution
