So I received my X61 tablet from eBay today. I love it. Screen is perfect with no bubbles, no key wear, it's generally brand new looking. Battery only has 77 cycles! I was surprised that it takes a standard height hard drive...

I think there is an issue with using the full 6gb/s drives, but wanted to double check.

Would this "one day sale" on the OCZ Vertex 4 be a good bet? (looking at the 128 gig).

    Thanks.

What OS are you planning to run? If it's Windows 7/8, get something like G2/G3 Intel or Samsung PM800/PM810. X61t won't support SATA 2 without BIOS hack. If you want Windows XP, look to get G1 (which is in my X61t right now),

I remember having fitting issues (and was not the only one) with one of the previous Vertex generations in ThinkPads. They were just a pinch too wide. Extremely annoying.

Apply Middleton's BIOS first, then buy a SSD. Seriously.

No issues that I can recall with SATA III drives in these tablets, I've ran Crucial (both C300 and M4) as well as Mushkin in them, would definitely recommend the former.

    Happy upgrading.

Thanks. I'm honestly considering using this as my primary machine. It's literally brand new. The screen is great and has no bubbles.

I am, of course, worried about getting bubbles. This machine had a 3-year warranty with onsite that expired in 11/2010. What are the chances the screen bubbled and was replaced? Are there any replacements / revisions that solved the bubble quandary?

I'm just hoping this machine has a newer, revised panel. It certainly looks like it may.

Also, is the keyboard smaller than normal Lenovos? I'm finding myself backspacing a lot due to typeos...something that's never happened on any of my other machines.

The only way to guarantee you won't get bubbles is to do an X60t SXGA+ swap like what I did. The X61t keyboard is just like the X60t, it's a 4:3 laptop, and because it's not so wide, the backspace is smaller than x series tablets that are 16:9 or 16:10. You'll just have to get used to it. There's no transplanting a X200/X201t keyboard, the keyboard is physically wider as 16:10 is wider than 4:3

The chances of the panel being swapped in the past are pretty good. Having said that, it's the newer revision (-101) that has a tendency of developing bubbles, as opposed to the older one (-100) that was used on X60T.

Look at the screen with the machine powered off. If it looks slightly smudgy no matter what you clean it with, it's most likely a newer-revision panel.

I wouldn't lose sleep over the future, given the fact that you've gotten the machine for $175...should the bubbling occur, get a X60T, swap the lids, sell the remains and you'll still be ahead of the game...

    Enjoy and good luck!

I have used three different types of SDD with my X200 and did not have any issues with any...

I have used ADATA, only needed a firmware to boot a few seconds faster

    OZC, not one issue

    and

    Patriot Torqx.

I just recently installa 120 OCZ on a X200 Tablet, I love it, it is very fast, but I swapped back to the orginal drive, need more space.
