I bought a new Thinkpad X61 about 3 months ago. Love the laptop. But my backspace key has lost some sensitivity. It works fine with a hard touch, but a light touch (or a touch slightly off-center) will not register a keystroke.
Am I stuck dealing with warranty service or does anyone have an idea for a quickfix? I'm not even sure if Thinkpad keys can be pryed off?

If you call them and tell them the issue you are having, they will most likely send you a new keyboard. You don't have to send your laptop in.

Yup. If you search the threads, many people have received replacement keyboards for free.
Removing the old keyboard and attaching a new one should be no big deal:
