Greetings, I have an X61t running Vista.
Recently, every time I boot I have to pause for a recommended 3-step chkdsk. Once it found a "corrupt file record segment 239617" Last time I booted, nothing was found, but I still had to endure the routine.
Is this an indication of a hard drive that is about to go out?
This Lenovo OEM drive is from Seagate (100GB Momentus drive). I replaced it with a 320GB momentus drive (that has just stopped working, so I reverted back to the original).
Should I image my hard drive w/ Acronis and replace the drive?
The Seagate Momentus drives have a shoddy reputation at Amazon and NewEgg. Any my recent experience sure underlines those warnings. Would other SATA drives work with the Lenovo utilities? (It would be OK if I had to give up that shock detection.)
Could I possibly put in a 500 GB hard drive, or would the X67's drive controller not handle that?
Many thanks.
Julie

go into your bios run a hdd hardware check, if there is error then you are looking for a new hdd.
The largest you can get is a 640 gig, which is also produced in 2.5 inch format and 9.5 mm thickness, which is the size of the hdd that will fit into your hdd bay. Anything larger wouldn't fit.
Also, the aftermarket Seagate hdd have 3 or 5 year's manufacturer warranty.
