My unit has an Intel 4965 AGN card, running on "G". It is very slow compared and drops out frequently. I have recently upgraded the software from both Intel and IBM. Compared to a X60S sitting beside it, my unit loaded a speed test and indicated the speed was 173 KBPS while the other unit did it in 5893 KBPS. Running it again, yielded similar results. Any thoughts?

I would start by uninstalling the driver (remove the 4965 AGN from device manager). Then I would install the FACTORY SHIPPING DRIVER (the one that came with your x61s [should be in the SWTools folder]). This may fix the problem. If it doesn't some further troubleshooting would be in order.

Perhaps a firmware upgrade for your router may do the trick or not.

What software are you talking about? What version?

To try and improve the wireless performance on your Lenovo you should visit the support/downloads area of the Lenovo website and make make sure you have the latest versions of the following software.

Note: On the lenovo website make sure to read the release notes thoroughly. Installing the latest version of Access Connections may require you to also update to the latest version of Program Manager. Read the release notes for each piece of software and make a list of what you need to update and in what order.

    1. Access Connections (If you use it to manage your wireless connections). This is a Lenovo program that ships on all Thinkpads. The other choice is it use the windows built in wireless software to manage your connections. The choice is yours which you use. I personally find that once updated to the latest version Access Connections works pretty well.

    2. The driver for your wireless card. I personally recommend using the wireless driver off the Lenovo website, not off the intel site.

Before You do anything drastic try turning both the router and the internet modem off then on again.

If you still have the problem go to "Managet Network Connections" and disable wireless connectivity and wait for a bit then enable it again.

Last option would be to do a quick uninstall of the network adapter from device manager and then look for new hardware and it should reinstall (using the same driver) and it generally does solve the issue.
