Okay first impressions are very good, I like how small it is. My only experience with notebooks is a Toshiba a135-2226 I picked up from Office Depot for $350 back in March. It's a 15.4 widescreen with a 2 hour battery and a celeron M430 (it feels just as fast as my 4 year old AMD XP3200)

First off, I've got to swap out the 2gb I bought a couple weeks back - 512 on vista is too slow(took about 10 minutes to initialize on the first load), but the 965 graphics chip is not too shabby along with the 1.4ghz L7300 Core Duo 2. As far as the battery is concerned - I've only had it plugged in an hour and its up to 73% charged.

Complete specs: 1.4ghz L7300, 80GB 5400, Bluetooth, no extra antenna, 512mb Ram, fingerprint reader

I can't believe how light it is, the fingerprint reader is also very cool. And the non-glossy screen is a plus as well. The only thing I noticed on the screen is a weird imprint that isn't noticable when the screen is on.

    Okay picture time

    Thanks for the great pictures!
I see you don't have Ultralight screen in your conf.
Maybe that why ours still delay...

My X61s with ultralight screen was ordered on 6/17... Just a few days after yours, politicorific...

I don't know if I'm happy or sad... On one hand, there's hope for mine to ship out soon, but on the other hand, it's anguishing to see yours while I have no idea when/if I'm getting mine.

I ordered mine one day later than you.
I have the same feeling as you since I do not know when I could get mine.
For a new thing like X61, time is a part of its value.

Many already have said, yes it still is hot.
    Especially with atheros.
But the intel wifi has been highly problematic for a number of ppl on the X, so pick your poison LOL

I've been on this thing non-stop since about 2 hours after first posting. Running Super PI (2 million digits, 1 minute 20 seconds) - been copying quite a few files over, checking out videos. So far I haven't noticed anything really.

The next thing I'm probably going to do is pull the drive out an clone/ghost it on another laptop - then I'll wipe it and probably put vista on it. I did this with my last machine as it had pitiful vista performance. I'm a little hesitant until I can confirm that I have drivers and that the utilities are available for XP - so I may wait a few days on this.

One thing I was surprised at was that my other laptop's 80GB drive had better performance according to Windows Vista experience... guess I should run HDTach just to make sure

But it's the wifi that makes the palm rest hot, not running SuperPi

What's your impression of the screen quality (ignoring that it's XGA, everyone knows that). I'm not too happy with my X60 samsung screen but mine is not UL like yours

    WiFi?
Isn't it the Harddrive being the source of heat?

Many people have complained about the heat from the wireless card located just below the right palmrest on the X60... The X61 was supposed to have some improvements in heat dissipation, but some have reported that it was still warm.
