I have already removed the LCD :(

    PN is 13N7091
    FRU 13N7092

    Toshiba Matsua LTD121ECHB.

But where can I buy one for a reasonable price? Should I just throw the laptop away? Also is there a better screen to replace it with?

    This the right one?

You can mail it to me. I'll pick up the shipping.

I think from a time and money perspective if you want a good screen you're better off selling your X61s and buying a X200 or X200s with the CFFL backlight then replacing it with the AFFS screen which is available on eBay though doing so will void your warranty.

I know you can replace the screens on the X6x machines with screens from the X6x tablets, but it's quite an involved process. I'm not sure if it's doable on the X61s as the s use a thinner LCD housing I believe. You can the SXGA+ resolution screen, then maybe it's worth it, but if you're just going from XGA to XGA then the X200 route seems a better option.

I'm not under warranty , I don't think I would get much for a laptop with no screen. Just put an intel solid state and Win7 into this machine a couple weeks ago. This really sucks, one fumble, knock, spill and toast :( Trying to do too many things at once. I can't really afford a new laptop right now. Will the screen I linked to above work? It's cheap. Also Samsung has a version of this screen?

that would be an ultralight.   the only panel that will fit is another TMD with the above FRU.

Ues it is ultralight, how do I know if the screen I'm about to order is an ultralight. They do not list the FRU, only the LTD121ECHB?

Another thought, when I look up 13N7092 all i get are WXGA screens...

13N7092 is the correct FRU for the TMD XGA ultralight panel.   you'll see it on this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62914#3

searching google for LTD121ECHB comes up with a range of prices from $145 on up.   unfortunately i don't know the best place to buy one of these panels.   my only suggestion is to read resellers' return/exchange policies carefully since not all are the same.

worse case, you could try to sell your working base on the thinkpads.com forum marketplace board.   like ZaZ said above, you could put the proceeds toward an X200 purchased used or from the lenovo outlet.   considering what a new display could cost, the upgrade may not be much different.

    it's something to consider.

I found a place but it is 6-8 Weeks until they get more stock, so I think I'm going to throw it away and try to sell my Intel solid state drive I JUST put in it :(

Damn I hate laptops, what a rip.

for the price of the 12" I could buy a top of the line thin framed 24" full LCD (not just the screen). For the price Lenovo wants I can buy another X61S. I always liked lenovo, but I don't know if I would buy another one now that I see how they gouge the customer.

EVERY LAPTOP MANUFACTURER HAS SIMILAR PRICES FOR THEIR LCDs! Don't take that to heart dude. Find the replacement from a 3rrd party and fix it.

    I asked first.

Maybe you want to post over in the Marketplace forum on ThinkPads.com to see if anyone's got a screen or knows how to get one at a more reasonable price. That seems to be a wiser course of action than throwing it out. The one you linked should probably work even if it's not a Lenovo part. According to their return policy you've got seven days to check it out, which should enough time to test it out. Throwing it out or giving it away seems a bit rash.

I don't think there is a 3rd party for this display. I found a place that carries it, I'll just have to wait 8 weeks for it to come into stock. So I may as well sell my x25m solid state in the meantime.

I think what makes me so upset is that my notebook was mint. Not a scratch on it. 2 years old but I hardly ever used it. Put in 4GB ram a solid state and upgraded to win 7 ultimate. And I was in the process of putting all my data onto it when I hit a bottle and if fell on it's side and splashed the laptop.

I cleaned it up and though it was ok when I realized liquid had leaked into the screen, so I removed the bezel and LCD.

I even managed to crack the bezel while putting it back together without the screen. It was SUPER fragile, I barley pressed and it snapped. You can't even see the crack though once the screws are in place, so I'm not sure it is worth replacing.

I guess I'll just hook it to a 24" LCD I have laying around that I got for $120 over a year ago. But what a waste of upgrades, and what terrible way to ruin a perfect lenovo laptop. I just can't stop hating myself for it, esp since I'm trying to save some money right now, and to make it worse the cracked bezel and backordered parts.

I can appreciate your frustration. I spilled a 20 oz cup of coffee into the keyboard of the HP in my signature. I had accidental damage protection, but the damn thing came back to life the day I was going to send it in. Miraculously! BTW The ~3rd one in the list from the Google shopping link above has 10 of the LCDs in stock (at least that's what the site says). One thing I hate about online shopping is that vendors without stock always have great prices. My guess is when those vendors actually have stock their prices will catch up to those with stock quite rapidly. GL with it...

They don't have it either, despite it saying 10 in stock.

    "Hi, Justin!
This screen is not available at the moment.
It makes no sense to speak about any discounts now.

    Regards,"

I offered $190. These are cheap $30 TN panel screens regardless of them being for a laptop. they are friggin TN panel! dime a dozen. Thats why I say Lenovo is screwing their customers for parts.

The first link is not even the correct screen.

resellers don't buy panels from lenovo.   lenovo doesn't manufacture that panel, either.   lenovo's COST on that panel new is higher than $190 direct from TMD.   i know that for a fact.   what you see from various resellers are all refurbished screens purchased through outside channels -- not through lenovo and not through TMD.

if you drove over a pile of nails and had to spend $500 to replace the tires on your car, are you going to blame your auto manufacturer because the price of tires seems expensive to you?   hopefully not, as this would be completely unreasonable, especially since they have no control over replacement tire costs or your own actions in driving over the nails.

i'm sorry you accidentally spilled your beverage on your X61s and damaged it in the process.   i really am.   but, you need to focus your frustration on the proper channel and stop blaming the manufacturer for something out of their control.   lenovo doesn't control the price of these panels and wasn't there to spill liquid on your computer.

The other issue is, like autos, as the manufacturer, Lenovo has to carry all parts for every machine, which is expensive. Websites can come along and pick off the best selling highest margin products to sell, which gives them an advantage.

But this isn't tires, it is a cheap TN panel. It's not even a very good LCD. I probably would complain if junk 13" tires cost more than 32" top of the line radials.

I would Most CERTAINLY complain if they wanted to charge me well over 1/2 the cost of the car to replace the tires as well.

The fact that people are fighting over the remains of your X61s indicates that you can probably sell it and recoup some of your investment.

I ordered a screen from Impact Computers for $255 shipped. They are out there for less but seemed to be backordered for 6-8 weeks so $70 to have it NOW seemed like the better deal.

I have a slight crack in the front bezel (not from removal but from when I went to snap it back in place). Perhaps it was already hairlined from when lenovo serviced it). Super glue should hold fine right? Because you can hardly tell it is there once the screws are in, they put enough pressure that the 2 sides of the crack are locked together just from the screws, (it will only bother me because I know it is there type of thing).

I'm not crazy about lenovo customer service. First time I sent it out they scratched the hell out of my laptop. When I sent it back they replaced the entire case. When I replaced the Hard drive with a solid state I found a clip was put in correctly and they just forced the screw down that holds it. I was able to take the screw out and re-center the clip properly when I tore it down because of the accident. Also the way they routed the wires up the side of the screen proved to be done poorly because the insulation had worn through the wire in spots. I will fix this with some liquid electrical tape which should also better keep them in position.

The only place that claimed to have them in stock that I could find was the website above. Their mistake just cost me $70 after shipping and restock fees.

Still looking for a place that will sell the screen for less than the cost of a used x61s. Anyone have any leads? The cheaped I can find one for is $350 off ebay.

    13N7092

Finally got my money back from Impact computers after 2 months. NEVER ORDER FROM THEM! They are liars and tried to rip me off. Worst CS ever and I have never been lied to so many times before. it does not take 6 weeks to issue a refund!

Still no luck finding a panel, seems crazy to buy one for $300 when you can get a replacement X61S for a little more? Putting my broken panel back in seems more reasonable...only 25% of the display is unusable.

    Justin,
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/homeLenovo.do?country=us
    Pick your model and type.
Get to the "User's guides and manuals " section, select the "User's guides and manuals",
"Service and Troubleshooting Guide - ThinkPad X61, X61s"

It is the how to of replacing every single part of your laptop.
Also listed all the part number.

in the LCD FRU, listed 13N7092, there listed all the model and type of the X61 and X61s it would fit..
right in that table on the next page, showing if the LCD panel is manufactured by other suppliers, it will have a different FRU number:
    Hydis 13N7094
    Hydis 42T0435
    Samsung 13N7096
    CMO 42T0343
it seems to me that all these FRU number are interchangeable.
The detail service manual for the business laptop is one of the main reasons why I buy business model from whether HP or Lenovo.
Searching Ebay with the FRU: Samsung 13N7096

Ebay has a bunch of listing at about $120
For example, this listing number: 350306850004
THe seller has more 10000+ selleer rating at 99%+
I would say that is a fairly safe buy.
It could be any of these sellers that you find as long as they have a large number of sales history and good rating.

Good luck and let us know how it works for you.
    K

Thanks for the info, however I don't believe 13N7096 is compatible. You see the 13N7092 if the FRU number not the part number. The part number is 13N7091. I think some of the screens you listed are compatible in one direction but not in the other. For example you might be able to put a 13N7091 in a laptop using the 13N7096 but not the other way around. The UL screen is thinner than the 13N7096 and for this reason I guess it costs $200 more. I wish I had picked the x61s with the cheaper screen now they are all over the net!

I believe the only screen that will fit in my case is the original TMD screen. And Lenovo is charging a small fortune for this part. for $300 I could buy a really nice 24" LCD monitor, so $300 seems steep for a 12" TN panel.

I have no idea, but I'd say reduce the ram to one stick maybe 0.5-1 gig if you have it lying around, and pull the SSD for a HDD and put it on ebay. That's what i'd do if I were going to get rid of a laptop. On forums like this one people tend to assign lower values IMO.

    Hello JustIntoxicated,

I am now in the same boat as you are. I have the X61s ultralite screen, part # 13n7092. I cracked my screen. After reading your posts, I am a bit wary of websites that advertise OEM parts that dont fit. This website seems to have screens, but they did not specify the part #: http://www.etech.com/item--NYK211-014

Not sure if you were able to come up with a solution. if so, please do share!

    Thanks.

    Hi all

I just... sat on my 7668CT0 x61s (Ultralight Screen).
The screen is broken, as well as that film thing (is that what you guys call the bezel?). The laptop works perfectly fine when hooked up to an external 24" though.

Did someone find a right place to get a FRU 13N7092?

What are my options besides selling it for parts?

    Thanks

Actually between $200 for a screen and $350 for a second hand x61s (for spare parts), I think the latter is better!
