X61T, XP OS and I believe it has 2 GB memory. Machine has always been a little lethargic and I have no idea why. I have two questions.

    1) I see the soft keyboard on the welcome screen when the machine boots and this stays up for at least a minute or two. Is there some kind of touch screen processing/initializing taking place? Is this normal to take so long?

    2) Machine is slower than it should be opening apps, etc. Is there some benefit to turning off the touch screen functionality which is not used anymore to speed things up?

Machine is clean of viruses, I clean it regularly...

I just came to this forum section to find a solution for the same problem.

I feel your pain. I haven't diagnosed yet but think I'll need to take the time to do so.

Try freeing up unnecessary processes. Check out the Black Vipers site for tips.

thanx for the Black Viper tip. Will look. However the issue [for me at least] is the glacially slow boot, well before we have the ability to kill tasks; it runs ok for the processor type and speed installed. Yes, bloatware is super duper high on these machines. However that has been a constant for years. Boot time with all that bloatware used to be quite quick for me; fastest of all the machines I owned. Now, this machine's boot is by far the slowest with the bloatware remaining constant..

X61t had a dreadfully slow hard drive if I remember correctly. If you want a huge improvement, you need to replace the drive with an SSD. I THINK the 61 used SATA (my T61 does, but my X41 used PATA) and I'm not sure if it was a 2.5 or 1.8" drive. Look at either an Intel X-25M or X-18M.
