I may be totally alone here but having had both the X61T and the X200T looking back I'm thinking that the X61T was just more user friendly and the display was better since it wasn't a wide screen. This offered in tablet mode
a better writing experience for note taking and what not. The X61T seemed lighter and easier to carry around or maybe the better term was less awkward.
Who knows. So I'm looking on ebay to grab a X61 for one the kids and I saw a T out there and it just brought back alot of loving memories.

So the question is, was the X61T everything I thought it was or have I forgotten about all the "whatever grrr" things that bugged me about it and am I just remembering the love story? Chime in let me know what you guys think.

x60/x61 -s -t had superior formfactor for sure. Lower resolution on the screen, poorer back light and hotter wifi (generally). But great looks! Sexiest of all notebooks up to date :) And I believe it is the only notebook approved by Nasa for space travel. Thats har to beat heh.

    ...unless you have SXGA+. ;)

for drawing or sketching, the SXGA+ X60T was probably the best overall system.   its panel has a polycarbonate overlay and was less prone to hand prints.   plus they ran relatively cool compared to the X61. the X61T's SXGA+ panel has a glass overlay and is unfortunately a print magnet.   but, it's more useful outside and has more memory capability.   each is a tradeoff.

overall, i'd say the X200T/X201T was built better.   having owned the X41T, X61T, and X200T, i would put the X200T at the top of the list for build quality.   the X220T should prove to be even better.

however, absolutely nothing can top having SXGA+ in a 12.1" tablet.

Though SXGA+ is nice in the X60/X61t, the 4:3 aspect ratio skews the keyboard a bit. With the x200t/x201t being widescreen, well makes the keyboard wider so the backspace is back to normal while being tiny on the 4:3 aspect ratio. Though I would prefer the higher resolution on an ultraportable, WXGA+ is just as nice.

humm hard to I guess looking back. I had the x61t and both. the x200t and a week with x201t which I couldn't stand. mainly because of the trackpad just got in the way. I'm a trackpoint Guy so I always just shut off the trackpad. the x200 was nice but for some reason in tab mode it just wasn't (right). now in laptop mode the x200/201 works way better with the wide screen I do agree.

its funny I don't think eBay sellers have grasps the consept that newer laptops have shipped. for example. most of the x201 are 1300 plus and the x301 are still 3grand asking price. you just have to shake your head. Now I don't think anyone is paying that but there are few that are not buy it now. So getting a good deal on an older one is going to be a waiting game for awhile it looks like.
kinda makes me wish I didn't sell my x61T now. :(

fair point but are we talking about your needs for typing on a notebook or someone else's needs for drawing/sketching on a tablet?   the OP is looking for a tablet.   if your primary input is a keyboard then i agree that the X60/X61 platform isn't quite as ideal as the X200/X201/X220.   however, for drawing on a portable tablet i'd still say that the SXGA+ X60T/X61T is arguably the best thing lenovo ever produced.

yup thats pretty much what I said. If typing in non tab mode then ya x200 pick you flavor is better. But in Tab mode at least for me it seemed that the older styled screen non wide screen "lames terms" was better for tablet style functions and was liveable for everything else. I still have a reg X61 that I use every day and I got to be frank its not all that bad for normal browsing. Differently not the greatest but its liveable.

"RANT"Which brings me to one single rant. The X61 is thin, an ultra portable and was still able to fit a 9.5 laptop drive with NO PROBLEM. The X220 I believe is actually thicker and even if its not there's NO reason they could not have used a reg 9.5 drive. There's no reason, none, zip, zero, nota other than to make it a pure PIA for us to go out and buy our own drives elsewhere. I think this was Lenovo's shady attempt to pull an Apple in trying to use a non standard drive config hoping we would be forced to buy our upgrades from them. Thankfully we are not the sheep they were hoping for and have many who have found other drives that will fit our X220's when they come in. So the question is I figure most don't realize what Lenovo was trying to do and the ones that do well that really leaves a bad taste in our mouths. "rant off"

like said at the start of this post I'm sure there are things that I'm missing about the x61t that made me grrr that i just don't rem but there's plenty of things that I do rem from the X200 and or more x201 since I had them not that long ago that I do. I think if I was going to get another tab it would either be a X220T or another X61T but differently not the X200/201. My perf only here though. Which was kinda the whole point of starting the thread was to see if others felt the same way or if I was missing something and or forgetting a major flaw in the X61t that if I bought another one that right after I got it. Soon as I powered it I would go oh ya I hated this part of blaalaablaa or that. Thank you for all that posted. I appreciated it.

I didn't use it for that long, so take my comment for what its worth. But I tried out the keyboard on a classmate's x60 tablet (provided by the school, by the way, for business majors), and it felt cramped compared to my x200. Granted, it's still a classic ThinkPad keyboard, so "cramped" on the x60 is still miles ahead of many netbooks and even some notebooks. But I prefer the regular sized keys of the x200, so the x60 didn't quite do it for me.

So just to echo some above comments, if you use the keyboard as your usual method of input, I'd give the edge to the x201/x220.

yes I know. I actually like that. see when your lay on the bed running though log after log the power plug if its on the back could get niffed (bent) but the great thing about the x61 was it was on the right side. so if you lifted it up from the front you never had to worry about that. odd that you would bring that up there you have it.
