Hi all,
I placed an order for the X61s and planned on getting the new Mogo Mouse x54 Pro when it comes out ( http://www.newtonperipherals.com/mogo_mouseX54pro.html). I naively thought that the Mogo mouse x54 looked like the old one, which used a PCMCIA slot, so immediately assumed it would work with the X61s.
However, from reading various threads and checking other forums, it seems I might be mistaken.
On the data sheet for the X60s (not available for the X61s for some reason?), it says it has a :
"Type I / II PC Card slot with 34mm ExpressCard via adapter".
What exactly does "via adapter" mean?
Also, regarding the mogo mouse x54 pro - while it says its an expresscard 54 card, it looks like it would work with a 34 express card slot too (just look at the shape).
Bottom line - will this mouse work with the X61s? I thought it would be a perfect fit for my needs!
Thanks!

Sorry, but it will not work. You can get an adapter to fit into a PCMCIA slot that fits a 34mm expresscard. You need a 54mm slot to fit the mogo mouse. If you look at the shape of the mouse, you'll see that it is wider at the outer end. That's where you need the 54mm. The actual interface part (narrow end) is not a problem.

Thanks foodle,
I guess I'm a little confused by what you wrote. By looking at the MoGo mouse, it looks no wider than a PCMCIA card.
By this diagram - it looks like Expresscard 54 is the same width as the PCMCIA:
It does look like Expresscard 54 is SHORTER than the PCMCIA card. Is the "adapter" lenovo is talking about something that makes up for that difference??
I'm beginning to think Lenovo is WAAAY behind the times (with the exception of their keyboards). Wanted the X61 to have express card slot, DVI/HDMI on their X6 dock, the 200 gb Hitachi 7200 rpm drive, Vista Business 64 bit option, and maybe even LED backlit display. ZIPPO FOR ALL OF THESE.
All of these seem like reasonable requests, given that MOST new computers now come with these (maybe not LED backlighting, but ExpressCard slot and DVI/HDMI output on the DOCK!!?!?. I have spent more time making sure that the X61 is compatible with my current setup than I could ever imagine. This is utterly ridiculous. -

i am very curious about this too I want to buy the mogo mouse pro when it is released but I am afraid it might not work with the x61T. BTW there is no visible adapter on the X61 units. It looks just like a regular PC Card slot.

Under "ThinkPad X60 notebook specifications" it lists:
Slots
1 Type I / II PC Card slot with 34mm ExpressCard
via adapter, 1 Secure Digital card slot
No idea what the hell this means. -

Are you referring to the X60 or X61? I have noticed there are a lot of errant specs on the X61's for example it lists the X61T as having IRDA. Next to the firewire port there is an IRDA Window but there is no infrared device on the computer. Some specs list different components for the same unit, very confusing. I wonder if that Adapter is an add-on you can buy to make your PC Card slot a ExpressCard 34 slot....Do you know if anyone sells a PC Card----> Express Card 54 adapter? Maybe if we picked up one of those it would solve the problem

Look on their webpage - A datasheet is not listed under the X61 or the X61s.
Also, I looked up a PCMCIA adapter to Express Card - couldn't find any that weren't without a huge dongle (negates the point of buying the MoGo mouse). -

Try that link, Weird how it says nothing about the Expresscard 34 adapter -
I'm baffled..notice second picture under PC CARD - "Expresscard (34 module, 54 module) for upper slot"

I know there are PC Card----> Expresscard 34 adapters....I think that Upper Lower thing is from a T series thinkpad, looks like they cut and pasted the specs from the T series and forgot to remove the non common components.... You could definitely use an Expresscard 34 card if you purchased one of these adapters I think Duel system adapters sells one. For sure though the Expresscard 54 will not work in the X61. We might have to get the old non scrolling PC Card Mogo Mouse unless duel comes out with a Expresscard 54 adapter.
I wonder if you got something like this and cut off the right side if it would work: http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=128&pid=1121 Looks like it might be too wide since the adapter takes a significant amount of space on the left side. -
Modding an adapter won't work because the interface for the Expresscard is in the center of the adapter. You would need it on the edge of the adapter. Now if you were up for some serious modding work ...
