I just purchased an 8 cell battery for my new X61s from a pricegrabber storefront. The battery was advertised as part number 40Y7003, the X60 series high capacity battery. The battery I recieved looks like a Lenovo OEM model, except that it doesn't have any of the lenovo branding.

Also, when I install the battery, there is roughly a 1/2" gap that runs along the height of the battery (up/down when looking at the underside of the laptop) the 4 cell battery that came with my computer does not have this gap.

Was I sold a cheap (or mislabeled) knockoff, or is this normal fit for the 8 cell?

    Thanks,

Yes, it sounds like you were sold a knockoff. Of the 10 or so different ThinkPad batteries I have seen, I am yet to see a battery without either IBM or Lenovo branding

If it is not a genuine battery, chances are it doesn't have the built-in chips (used for ThinkVantage Power Manager) found in genuine batteries.

I suggest you start Power Manager, go to the 'Battery Information' tab and look at the 'Battery details' section. This section displays alot of details about your battery such as: manufacturer name, manufacture date, first used date, serial number, bar-coding number, FRU part number, etc.

With a non-genuine battery I highly doubt you will get those data readings.
