So whenever I put my new x61s into sleep mode and then resume it, the screen backlight doesn't work. The screen is still working (if i hold it undera strong light I can still see the stuff on it). In order to get the screen working normally, I have to completely turn the machine off and then back on.

Anyone have a clue why this could occur?

If you are running Vista, try the two patches mentioned here. They include a multitude of fixes.

I had the same issue on linux; on linux, the method is to tell the acpi system to suspend using bios S3 support (acpi_sleep=s3_bios) - you might be able to find a way to do something similar in windows.

have the similar problem with my X61s. The screen will lose backlight suddenly during my normal usage(not after hibernation or sleep). But after hitting the beightness adjust keys, the backlight will resume. Don't know why, maybe I should also give Lenovo a call.......

Well got the machine back today...they reimaged it and did something with the planar card (I don't know what that is) apparently. Things seem to be working fine at the moment.

Separately, I emailed lenovo to complain about having to send in a new machine twice in the first 2 weeks I had it. They offered me an extra battery, a ram upgrade or a 30 day warranty extension. Since I already upgraded the ram on my own, and 30 days on a 3 year warranty doesn't make much of a difference, I took battery.
