Hello! This is my first time writing a new post. I need to ask a question about the X61s UltraLight XGA Display. Compared to the normal 12.1" XGA display, what advantages does the12.1” UltraLight XGA have? Is it just somewhat brighter? Also, for those who actually have used the X60's 12.1" XGA display, what is your opinion about it? Thank you so much!

I don't particularly care for the x60s XGA display. The resolution is kind of low and everything looks slightly pixellated. It's plenty bright, however, so that's a plus. The new ultralight xga display is backlit by LEDs. In addition to being brighter, it should provide longer battery life and be a little thinner.

The resolution of the new ultralight xga display is the same as that of the normal xga display right? Would you explain more about the LEDs that you mentioned? Thank you !

I'm typing this on the X61s with the UltraLight panel. I have to say it quite good. It is clear and bright, definitely brighter than my R60. The last X series I saw was the 40. I think this is brighter than that as I recall.

I don't believe the UltraLight is LED backlit. Yes, the UltraLight has the same XGA resolution.

Are all of the new x61(s) screens backlit by LED? or just the ultralight on the x61s?

Hey ZaZ, about how much battery life can you get on your X61s?

I just got the unit on Friday. I haven't done an official test yet, but I have the eight cell. I suspect its going to be quite a lot just from the limited time I have used it so far.

It's NBR's review unit. I didn't buy it. I think I saw someone over on ThinkPads.com who had theirs.

Could you take some shots of the ultralight screen showing its viewing angle vertically?

The X60s ultralight display *DOES* have an LED backlight.

The ultralight is 180 nits while the regular version is 150 nits bright (~20% brighter).

The X60s with ultralight display weights 0.20 lbs less than the regular X60s.

Does anyone know if the X60t SXGA+ screen has the same LED backlighting? It's brighter than the XGA version as well.

ONLY the X60s (not the X60) is available with the ultralight display.

Both the X60s and X61s are available with the ultralight display. The display is optional on both models. The ultralight display has not changed between the X60s and X61s.

If the x61s has LED backlighting, whey isnt it listed here? http://www-306.ibm.com/common/ssi/f...=897/ENUS107-265&appname=lenovous&language=en

Ultralight does not necessarily mean its backlit by LED. Just because its 20% brighter, also does not mean its Backlit by LED.

If the ultralight display in the x61s is the same as the x60s, then they should both be backlist by LED. I see no mention of this for the x60s specifications available at lenovo.com

True, I've never heard about LED backlighting either. It's just bit brighter that's all.

According to Lenovo's blog (written by Lenovo employees), the ultralight uses LED backlighting.

    LINK

There is also more than one review that lists the ultralight display as being LED backlit. Here's one example: LINK

I agree that Lenovo's own website and adverts don't mention the LED backlighting. I don't know why...this is a major feature IMO.

Just having posted in aonther thread how some ppl say they don't like this display, here is someone who does.

I guess it's personal. You cant really go by others' opinions on this subjective matter of whether the screen is good, there will be a range of opinions and they may not match what your experience will be.

But... If you're coming from UXGA on 14", you probably wont like it
If you're used to XGA on 14", you'll probably think it's fine but smaller.

Strange - that first link from the thinkpad blog - the guy corrected himself and said that the X60s does NOT use LED backlighting...

    http://www.lenovoblogs.com/designmatters/?p=97#comment-7447

"Edit: I later learned that in fact, the X Series does NOT employ an LED backlight. This was some previously inaccurate information I had, I apologize for the confusion! "

I have the ultralight on my x60s and I enjoy it, I even find the lowest brightness setting very good. I've had no problem with it and my desktop display is dual 19 inch lcds.

Anyone have any idea on when/if Lenovo will release thinkpads with LED backlighting? Why the heck is Apple always on the cutting edge!? Its almost as bad as being a Verizon wireless customer - gotta wait a year or two for the good stuff to trickle down...

LOL you call finally introducing notebooks with Intel processors a year ago "cutting edge"?
