    Hi,

I am looking at a X61 or X61s, and its been some years since my last thinkpad. I haven't been able to find a docking station from Lenovo that would give me a DVI output to my 1900x1200 24" Dell :)

Does that exist? If I cant get that, its a dealbraker.

My dream would be a dockingstation with a builtin DVD drive ... would be nice :)

    /Lars

I believe the Advanced X6 Dock has a slot for a DVD drive, as well as VGA/DVI output.

Hey ... googled around and found out that the X6 is the only solution and that there is no DVI interface on it ....

Traditionally the X6x series only come with integrated graphics chips. The 945 Intel integrated graphics chip cannot support DVI.

The newer 965 Intel integrated graphics chip (x3100) might support DVI. But Lenovo will have to build a whole new ultrabase to add DVI out.

Thanks ... didn't know that. Would be lovely if they got their head out of their a$$ and put a DVI plug on that Xbase :)

I personally don't think it is all that different.

I have to say I disagree.

I have tried a number of desktops and notebooks (through docking stations) on different screens, and DVI have ALWAYS been giving a visibly sharper image than any VGA input. Sometimes the difference is more obvious, but IMO the difference is always easy to spot.

I have to add though that on a couple occasions I preferred the VGA input because text on the screen was too sharp/contrast too high, to be comfortable.

My grief here is that they have robbed the user of the option of using DVI, with the X61/x6 combination. And though I probably is going to buy an X61, this makes other options more attractive.

You can't be robbed of something that was never there. I have tried it both ways as well. If there was a difference it was not noticeable to me, but to each his/her own. The other issue is the xbase is rather small. If you start adding all the ports everyone want, it starts to be less portable. Lots of people tote the base around as well.

Agreed. But I am shopping for features that I know I'll need or like.

I didn't know that it was light enough to log around. Just saw it as a docking option. Anyway .... thanks for your input. :)
