    can i use SD card to boot OS?
    what about linux? (ubuntu)

    I think u can......make sure you have it as the first one in boot order

    If the bios supports booting from an external device...I know my old Dell doesn't support booting from an external device but I believe that most newer machines do. And I would assume that thinkpads are no exception.

    If your machine supports booting from USB, get yourself a 4Gb thumbdrive and boot Vista from that. Google for the instructions on how to make the USB drive bootable. I've done this before with my UMPC.
