Hey guys, my laptop's battery kicked the bucket today, so it seems (flashing orange battery light). So I'm looking for a replacement battery that I can buy so I can get back to using the laptop in-class and whatnot.

Doesn't matter to me if it's another 8-cell or a smaller battery, if it's OEM or not (though OEM battery prices are crazy... especially for an old notebook), though I was wondering what reputable sellers offer replacement batteries for the X61t. Rather not do eBay, though.

How about Amazon? Perhaps going by user feedback you might find a reputable seller. FWIW and YMMV as always I have been very lucky in finding fleabay batteries for the Thinkpads I have owned/worked with/or sold. Sometimes you will get lucky and get a genuine with a low cycle count but those require a lot of patience. Aside from Amazon not sure if Lenovo Outlet or perhaps IBM itself has X61t batteries squirreled away for sales (longshot but IIRC they still sell older ThinkPads so I am guessing they must have component parts for them as well). Good luck :)

Last time I bought a new genuine X61t 8 cell for ~70 dollars off of eBay. Worked great, I got ~6-7 hours run time on Windows 8 RC.

If it was possible to pay with just a credit card or something on eBay, that would be great, though they require PayPal.

I'll definitely search Amazon, though I'm just curious which aftermarket batteries people have had good experience with.

Stay away from aftermarket batteries. Most of the *6 series machines do not like them and random freezings have been reported a zillion times.

You're better off with a gently used genuine Lenovo battery.

Would you happen to know where to buy any of them, though? Laptop batteries aren't exactly something I'm very knowledgeable in.

I agree, it's the best place to source quality thinkpad parts.

My X60t battery died in 2011 and I replaced it with this $28 after market battery from Amazon
    ATC High Capacity 5200mAh 14.4V Replacement Li-ion

The ribbed strip on the top of the battery (with the arrow) is just hard plastic instead of soft rubber like the original. Also it is slightly bigger than the original 8-cell. Other than that it is working well for me. I run Linux, and when I check the battery information, it shows the vendor as SONY, and holds a charge of 82.3% after 1+ year usage.
