Hi All...I just got my new R61 and I'm trying to install a clean version of XP. I've read the multiple guides on how to do this and googled the issue, but I can't seem to get XP to boot from the cd drive. I've done this so far:

    1. Changed the bios settings for SATA drive to "compatibility" and moved the the CD0 drive to the top of the boot list.

    2. Rebooted and hit any key. The next screen let's me choose to start Windows vista (I can hit F8 for Vista advanced options) or start the "Windows Memory Diagnostic." There's no option to boot from cd or format the hard drive

I've done a clean install on an HP laptop before without an issues, but this seems to be getting the best of me. I'd appreciate any help! Thanks :D

I tried the cd in my desk top and it boots without any problems. I'm not seeing the boot from cd option any time from turning the computer on to vista loading.

    tironic,

It's hard to believe but there will be times some CDs will boot in some PCs but not in other PCs.

On your Desktop, copy the ISO as an ISO to your hard drive then re-burn it to another CD Brand as an ISO.

XP and Vista don’t play well together in my experience.

I’ll just add this in case, if like me, you searched (and had to register) forums, googles never-ending links of junk all in a quest to reason why your cd drive wont boot a bootable disc.

One thing that no one talks about around notebooks is the jumper settings for our cd drives, I recently replaced a dead drive with an exact copy new drive and had some tool at a brand name store install it for me. the pc never did boot from the cd again, not a problem if you have a working windows but when you need a bootdrive and have NO floppy, things can get insane. I took the pc to work and had one of our geek guys tell me the jumper settings were the culprit, and once fixed it boots again.

Something to keep in mind if you ever replace a drive in a laptop.

I realize this is NO help to you and your problem, but it is along similar frustrating lines, if it solves one persons boot issue then my 2 weeks of twiddling will not have been in vain.

    Good luck!
