    Hi guys!

Recently, my T61p has started to take a very long time when logging in (WinXP). The actual bootup, from power-on until the welcome screen, is normal. Afer I select my username and enter my password is where the trouble starts. After it accepts my password, it displays "loading personal settings" or something to that effect. Then it just sits there. The hard drive stops chugging for a several seconds too; eventually it gets through after 30 seconds or so to the desktop.

Has anyone experienced this on their thinkpads?

This happened to me also. It took like 90 seconds for my system to boot. And this was AFTER I uninstalled all the useless programs and unchecked all the startup programs in Start>Run>msconfig. You can try this if you haven't. You can always perform a custom install with the blue ThinkVantage button. It lets you decide the programs you want the system to install. I did this first but it was still slow.

Finally, I just decided to do a clean install and now it boots up in 30-35 seconds from the moment I press the pwoer button to the where I have a useable desktop. If you decide to do this, I recommend the Guides in my signature, depending on which Operating System you have.

I would chock this up to fragmentation, The Lenovo Bloatware is basically useless to me personally but i have no other copy of XP, i would suggest you defrag the harddrive and optimize the registry and defrag that, great program Advanced System Optimizer it is fantastic well worth the money, but just defraggin the hard drive should help alot and put the lenovo stuff on wisper mode

Yeh I had this happen after I stopped Windows Wireless Zero Config from starting.

Setting it back to automatic fixed it.

It could possible be spyware. Also check your startup files

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. The problem is now solved. Apparently, both the windows wireless software and Access Connections were in conflict (i.e. both were set to connect automatically). Although I defragmented my hard drive as well just to make sure, it is more probable that it is the resolution of the former case which eventually resolved the issue.

I was doing a clean install, like I always do, on a T400 we just received. After installing the wireless drivers and Access Connections, I would get a 1-2 minute lag on the logon screen. I had previously disabled the Wireless Zero Config service... after re-enabling it, the login delay was gone. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, I have a IBM ThinkPad R52. I was experiencing this problem too but, mine will not log in full stop. I left it to try and log in for an hour or so but it doesn't load.
Any suggestions on how to actually get it to log on. I think i know how to fix it if it eventually loads. I'm sure it has something to do with fragmentation or not enough space.
Help and opinions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks :)
