I tried to clean install my laptop and it says I don't have a hard drive? Anyone else have this problem?

In the BIOS change your hard drive setting from 'sata' to 'compatibility'. That should fix it.

It is actually set at "AHCI" right now. Should I still change it to Compatability mode?

In the meantime...I have a question since you seem to know what is going on here.

Is there a way to load XP Pro clean, but leave the service partition? I am assuming I can just choose to install it on the "Preload" partition, and that will leave the service partition alone, thus letting the Fancy blue button work still.

    Am I right about this?

Oh yeah...and what's the deal with the 7MB of unpartitioned space?

(As you can tell your trick worked.....should I change the BIOS back when I am done?---> THANKS!)

Yup...change it back to SATA after you install XP but BEFORE you boot into XP for the first time. As far as that other service partition: leave it there...you only need to format the C: drive partition, not the others.

The 7MB space will always be there...the hard drive requires that space to be unallocated.

Sorry, just want to make sure before hit good old "ENTER=Install"

So if I only install on the C Drive:

    1) The blue button will on a reboot will boot into the service partition AND..
    2) While in Windows, if I press it, the software will come up?

Thanks again...I really appreciate the help a ton. I am looking forward to reviewing this beast. I LOVE it.

    Thanks!

Sorry, I was out with my family. I have no idea about the button--my guess is yes, but I have not clean installed yet--I am planning to try this weekend.

Other input folks? I know a lot of other members have clean-installed.
