I just installed SP3 and it's working great, it didn't brick my T61, I did have to stop a few services that i don't like to have running , Auto Updates, Windows Firewall, Security Center, but it does seem a bit peppier loading menus and the like. One thing i didn't like was at the startup it had a screen asking if i wanted to have auto updates on, i don't period.

    Great news!

I'm actually planning to do a clean install and go straight to Windows Update for SP3. No extra services or programs running. :)

    Thanks Hawkeye05.

Any quick performance benchies? I would definitely like a comparison to Vista SP1... Btw, can someone post re: if the battery life increases after the SP3 update or is it still the same/less?... Thanks

XP SP2 and SP3 are more a less the same. SP3 is just all the patches accumulated after SP2 was released. There are a couple of new features in SP3 but they're mostly aimed towards the enterprise users. So to answer your questions, SP3 probably has the same battery life as SP2.

I try to use vista as little as possible, so i cant give a comparison to SP1, It is noticeably faster though i do plan on doing a clean install this summer to speed it up even more

    Too bad there's no 64-bit XP SP3.

I've really never seen any benefit to 64bit except the possibility of more memory.

Not canceled, just delay time for the official release.

Yeah, I couldn't find SP3 either. I just did a clean install of XP on my T61p last night, couldn't stand Vista. I had to have MS email me a hotfix to get the sound working, it's supposed to be included in SP3.

I still have 1 unknown device. Probably the nav point mouse.

Any links to the release of SP3? Or are you just talking about one of the betas?
