I was wondering if anyone with a T61 has installed service pack 3 for XP Pro on it. What were the results on your system? I just downloaded and installed a copy of sp3 from tweakxp.com, its version .3244. Anyways, after installation I think it might have slowed down my T61 a bit. Anyone else have experience with sp3? I am thinking Xp sp2 might be the sweet spot for the T61.

SP3 is still in development and being tested. Just wait until it's officially released before installing it...

i have it installed and I don't see any significant performance improvements

Actually, the reviews a few weeks ago have said that it speeds up XP but does not help Vista's speed.

My T42 has SP3 and It feels much faster on everything.

It might be just a feeling.

I don't know if I'll get it, I really don't like windows update ever since i heard of stealth updates and my biggest fear is of loss of performance, so i think I'll just wait a few weeks after SP3 to see what the reports are saying.

Yea, I'm definitely waiting until it's shown in Windows Update and even then I will give it a couple weeks before installing it.

The RC has tested as being something like 8-10% faster than SP2 or earlier. It should be a nice little upgrade for XP users.

As already stated though - unless you want to reformat and install later (or I suppose you *could* uninstall the beta SP - although probably not very cleanly) you should wait until the final release is publicly available.

If it matters, I'm using both Vista SP1 and XP SP3 here at home with *less* issues than before.

I know RC status doesnt mean rock solid - but I havent had any issues as of yet.

The XP SP3 wasnt entirely necessary for me as I wasnt having any issues with SP2.

Vista SP1 on the other hand, while not perfect, fixed numerous issues I was having with pre-sp1. I still dont like Vista - but it IS slowly becoming a viable option if you have a monster of a machine needed to run it properly.
