I was just wondering it seems like a majority of the users here have caved and gone for Vista, i'm just wondering what the performance difference is between the two on similar models, I have a T61 with the T7500, 2GB Ram, Nvidia NVS 140, and XP, im wondering what anyone with similar specs and vista if they have similar performance. The only good benchmark i can think of would be FPS in games, because i dont think benchmarking software would be all that affected by OS.

Currently, I don't think vista is as fast as XP. XP is a far simpler OS.
But SP1 is supposed to take care of that.

Yes we have great hopes for SP1...from what I've seen SP1 really improves file transfers, battery life, and security.

I wonder what SP1 will break. XPP is not that much faster on a T61 especially if you have 2 or more GB's of memory.

I haven't applied it yet because I'm not sure it can be fully removed.....

I picked XP for my T61p.

Is it true that you cannot use pirated software on Vista OS?

I repartitioned and installed XP, four minutes after I got mine.

Good question. If that's true, then I think a lot of people won't be switching for a long time.

Well the main thing thats keeping me from it is the way i hear it can kill performance, i know several people who have machines that should be able to play supreme commander at full, but they cant becaus vista slows everything down. I know i can and do ply supreme commander and CNC 3 on this machine at near full quality on both, i doubt i could do the same with Vista

SP1 beta is out to a select group of testers including certain MSDN members. The real release is expected 2008.

I only have the 128MB Nvidia not the 256MB on the T61p. It does get warm, but the VERY NICE thing about the Thinkpad heat design NO toast being made here more like a nice warm fondue...hah hah, Phil

I only have two small issues so far with mine and guess what? They're both software issues! Every once in a while it just wont have sound, then i have to restart, not a big deal just a little inconvienience, also that i can't have the nice scroll drivers and use the middle button to say open tabs in opera thats a little more annoying.
