I have a t60p with windows XP, I just installed the patch to use both cores just in case it wasn't already working, but then thats the problem. I have no visual, graphical means of seeing both cores operating for confirmation. Is there a program for a vista type gadget (or something similar) to use in XP to see the cores actually operating. Task manager shows 2 processors, but I'd like a second opinion.

Here is a photo of the Vista gadget for those unfamiliar with it.

is there a reason why you dont "trust" task manager? if you do, just run a program, like, firefox, and then watch the meters. they should both show activity. If only one shows activity check the CPU affinity for the program, which tells the program which cores to use.

If you'd like, have a very small dual core performance monitor that I wrote that shows both cores, % memory in use and % pagefile in use. If you are interested, please pm me.

I trust task manager, I just wanted something that loaded automatically and stayed up so I could see it and get to it easily, but I guess task manager will do. I like the Vista gadget but I want to use XP for now. Thanks for the help with affinity in task manager, it makes task manager more useful and so I think I will go that route.

Thanks Renee, that was a kind offer.
