Does anyone know if it matters if I buy the x61 with Vista for business and then upload Windows XP Professional. You see I need XP Professional for school but I found a good deal with everything great except that it runs Vista for Business. Will I still be able to take notes on the screen if I have windows XP Professional?

If you can do it in Vista, you can do it in XP.

Where are you buying the X61 from? If you're buying it from Lenovo.com, you can still order it with XP Pro. If your're stuck with Vista Business, depending on what programs you use, it should still be able to run in Vista.

You need the X61t (tablet) to do that. You will need XP tablet edition also. Vista does support tablet. Regular XP does not.

If you buy a tablet PC, it'll come with the necessary software for taking notes.

XP isn't the only OS that supports tablet; Vista supports it as well.

XP does not support tablet. XP tablet edition does. Vista does as I have stated in the previous post.

    Hi!

I'm going to buy the X61 when its available in a week or two in my country.

However, VISTA is definitely a problem because my IP surveillance software by DLINK is not VISTA compliance as informed by DLINK. Secondly, I think many office IT equipment like photocopying machine, scanner, printer etc are still not VISTA compliance.

Would Lenovo warranty that downgrading from VISTA to Win XP Pro and its hardware drivers would assure me that my X61 runs problem-free..well..at least all the ports and features on the X61 should work with Win XP Pro?

    Anyone knows?

    Where are you from?

I just noticed from Lenovo Msia, X61 and X61s are configured in both Vista Biz and XP Pro, no price tag yet.

You're right to say that Lenovo Malaysia shows one of the X61 with WinXP Pro pre-installed

I'm from Singapore and the Lenovo Singapore website does not show the X61. According to Lenovo resellers the X61 will probably be available in a week or two....and....price is still unknown

BTW, I was told that upgrading the hard disk to a Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm SATA would void its warranty? Is that true?

    Thanks

Putting in a 3rd party drive won't void the entire warranty on a system in the US, but the factory warranty won't cover the 3rd party drive. Use the 7200 drive from Lenovo, and you will be fine.

I would try to run Vista for many of your items...first, you can right click on an install or executable, and try to do a "Run As" XP...

You are going to have to turn off User Account Control to get anything "old" to work in Vista.

Try to stay on Vista...unfortunately, all PC manufacturers will stop shipping XP Jan 08, and Microsoft claims they may start to withdraw support approximately 1 year after that.

Not much XP support since SP2, and it's so solid and nice to use.

Vista is just not ready, anyway you can always upgrade fr XP Pro to Vista Biz easily.
