My 32 bit inspiron has died leaving me without a 32 bit system for testing. So I bought a new copy of XP (SP3) and it says it can't find the disk on my T61p. The disk runs Windows 7 fine.

Are you using ACHI?

Oh do I have to change controller or turn off ACHI for the installation?

Press F1 when the ThinkPad logo shows up on startup then switch to compatibility mode somewhere in the Config section (SATA). Though if you have a slipstreamed XP disc with the Intel RST drivers you don't have to do this.

I found the disks section and set it to compatibility mode and am now rebooting.
