Your original Vista drivers won't work in XP - they're designed specifically for Vista and your system is designed for Vista, not XP. That's why they tell you not to downgrade, as they don't support it with XP drivers, BIOS or any other updates. You can check, as some systems have been successfully downgraded, but not that many, and there are always at least one or two drivers you won't find because they don't exist. They're usually media drivers, like audio or video.

That is not true. XP drivers often work in Vista and vice versa. In a few cases I've seen the Vista driver works in XP, but the XP driver doesn't and the other way too. All things equal you're probably better off using the XP drivers. You can of course go to the Lenovo download page then put in you machine type and OS to get all the drivers for your machine. If you made the recovery discs like we told you to, you can put Vista back to get a copy of the SWTools folder, which contains a copy of all the applications and drivers installed on your machine. Some of the downloads on the Lenovo site are quite large. It's probably faster to have a copy of the SWTools folder. Some are also only updates like the media software. You'll need the original software installed already to install the update.

    hi guys,
    thank you for your replies.
i copied all the drivers and formatted the system, and followed the cleanxp install thread. and sucessfully installed xp without leaving any hardware unnoticed.
But after i formatted the system, i see there is a name change on my dvd drive. now it says dvd-RAM instead of dvd-rw. and i placed a rw dvd and wanted to write it by drag-dropping file. It says it cannot copy the file.
But i am able to read files from the cd.

You can't drag and drop a DVD-RW. You can only do it with a DVD-RAM disc, but you have to format it first.

Ya , you r right, i have to format it which i do, but in my system i am unable to do tht. so i used another system to format it.and then placed into my drive and wanted to write, but it says windows cannot perform the rw operation.

For drag and drop, you may need to use the Drive Letter Access (DLA) software that probably shipped with your system. I don't have access to a matching system, but that has been my experience in the past.
