Hey all, I've had my Y400 for about a month and a half now, I love the thing. Exceeds my expectations. The other day, I set it down to go do something, and I must've tripped or stepped on my mouse cable that was plugged into the USB 3.0 port on the left hand side, because that casing around the port is bent and mangled, and the port itself is bent up, towards the screen. It still works, but I don't know for how much longer.

My question is, how difficult would it be to DIY replace it? How much is a new port, and is it worth the time and effort to replace it? I watched a disassembly video, and it looks like a pain in the neck for one measly port. Would this be covered under my "Standard 1 year warranty"? And if so, how long of a wait am I looking at for it to be replaced and returned?

Honestly, just give them a call, and use a complaining tone (so you control them hehe), and the replacement time can be anywhere from 4 days to 4 weeks.

    Short answer, NO.

    From the Y400 HMM http://download.lenovo.com/consumer...y400y500_hmm_1st_edition_sep_2012_english.pdf

The following are not covered under warranty:
    • LCD panel cracked from the application of excessive force or from being
    dropped
    • Scratched (cosmetic) parts
    • Distortion, deformation, or discoloration of the cosmetic parts
    • Plastic parts, latches, pins, or connectors that have been cracked or broken by
    excessive force
    • Damage caused by liquid spilled into the system
    • Damage caused by the improper insertion of a PC Card or the installation of
    an incompatible card
    • Improper disk insertion or use of an optical drive
    • Diskette drive damage caused by pressure on the diskette drive cover, foreign
material in the drive, or the insertion of a diskette with multiple labels
    • Damaged or bent diskette eject button
    • Fuses blown by attachment of a nonsupported device
    • Forgotten computer password (making the computer unusable)
    • Sticky keys caused by spilling a liquid onto the keyboard
    • Use of an incorrect AC adapter on laptop products

Even if you had ADP (Accidental Damage Protection), it may not be covered.

    Lenovo Services

Note the "normal operating condition" caveat.

Still, you can call service, but I don't think that, even a "complaining tone" would help. Once you send it in, the tech who receives it, makes the call. They will tell you what's damaged, and how much it will be to repair. If you don't want to pay the charge, they'll ship it back in the same condition you sent it in.

Sorry to be such a killjoy. :(

The port is directly attached to the MB. What the hey, be thankful it still works!

Thank you! You weren't a killjoy. So sounds like I'm going to have to live with it and hope it continues to work properly? :twitchy:
