    Greetings!

I noticed downloading from my Y400 a game from steam upstairs I was only getting 50% throughput, but when I was downstairs next to my wifi router, I got full throughput. (2.2-3.6 MBps upstairs) vs (4.4-4.6 MBps downstairs) from my service (40Mbps/4.8MBps VDSL)
w/ Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 looks like two antenna in the disassemble pics

My other laptop HP Envy 15 gets much better wifi throughput upstairs (4.4-4.6MBps)
    w/ Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN

I realize wifi throughput is impacted by so many factors, but based on what I'm seeing, would replacing the Y400 wifi card help my upstairs throughput?

N-2230 vs N-6300? Seems a simple upgrade to perform.
Is there a better intel wifi card upgrade choice?
My router is a Cisco E4200, dual band, but I usually prefer 20Mhz 2.4Ghz for range. 40Mhz 5Ghz has terrible range.

    thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!
    ND

Ahh just did a spec check on the N-6300, it has 3 antenna's, that explains a lot

So is there a better intel wifi card with 2 antenna's than the N2230 ?

    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 ?

802.11agn, 2x2, dual band delivers up to 300 Mbps speed, greater range and reliability. 5 GHz boosts speeds and reduces congestion.

Swap to this, get into the 5Ghz band, still only 2 antenna's... ?

Also, pay attention to the Lenovo white list for any wireless card upgrade. To sum it up, you can only replace your wireless card with a Lenovo approved card, containing their "FRU" stamped on the card. The only way to get around this is by using a modded bios, thereby voiding the warranty.

Good luck finding any reseller that has an "Approved Lenovo Wireless Card containing their FRU" :twitchy:
