In case anyone missed it, Lenovo's US site made this update yesterday (I think). Granted, the ultrabay with a second 750M is not yet available, so no SLI yet, but still worth noting that it overtakes the G46VW as the 14" with the single most powerful GPU. Sales reps claim Optimus is still disabled, so, while that's annoying, it at least gives hope that they are working on a 750M ultrabay solution. Yes, there is also the problem of the relatively low quality screen, but hard to argue with a $750 14" incher with the following:

    3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor( 2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
    Windows 8 64
    NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB
    8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
14.0" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
    1TB 5400RPM+16GB SSD
    DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
    6 Cell Lithium-Ion
    Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230
    Bluetooth Version 4.0
    One year
    Notebook
    Integrated HD Camera
    HDMI (Out)
Industry Standard Multi-touch 2 button touchpad

I know I didn't - argue that is. Waiting for mine to ship now!

Yes, it's a very good deal. I got my Y400 last week for $699 before taxes. I would've likely splurged for the 750 model had I waited. But there's no use going back now, with all of the time it took to set this laptop up, lol. The 750m ultrabay cards should be coming out soon, and apparently Lenovo has stated they can be mixed (as in a 650m machine with a 750m ultrabay in SLI). It will, of course, be limited by the performance of the 650m, but there may well be enough of a boost over two 650m cards to justify it.

Well I would cautious just about the last part. I had a long conversation with a sales rep yesterday on the topic of mixing the two. Initially he claimed the ultrabay currently sold would work in either a Y400 with a 650M or 750M. I was very confused by this as I understood SLI to only work with two of the same cards, which I pointed out. He insisted in this case that you could mix and match. Our conversation continued on to other topics, but about 10 minutes later he returned to the topic of SLI and informed me that he had consulted an NVIDIA tech specialist and that he was indeed mistaken...that the cards cannot mix an match.

Now any way you look at it the guy obviously didn't really know what he was talking about, so I don't put too much stock in the whole conversation. However, I won't be risking wasting money on the mix-and-match solution...I'll just wait for the 750 ultrabay. And honest

It is common knowledge now that the cards can be mixed (Nvidia typically doesn't want to admit this). They can even be mixed between brands (Amd with Nvidia in SLI). The requirement is basically that they have the same architecture, shaders, and memory for the most part. Generally, if they have the same model name (GT, GTX, etc.) and series, they will work in SLI. You should wiki-search SLI. The 650m and 750m are of the same model, and their architecture and shader count is basically the same, so there should be no reason why the 650 and 750 wont work in SLI together.

Well I guess that's what I get for making assumptions.

Still, in my case I will wait and see if they release an ultrabay with a 750M. If not, I guess I can fall back on the current 650M ultrabay.

They raised the price of that configuration (1TB+16GB SSD) to 799. Now for 749 is just the config with 1TB HD. I talked to a rep about getting one yesterday but couldn't get a hold of them later. So hopefully they will honor yesterday's price.

Ah that's a little unfortunate. The nice thing about Lenovo though is that they cycle through deals faster than Madonna does wardrobes, so maybe in the future it will pop back up at the original price. Or maybe they will offer it through the Barnes and Noble thing (when I ordered I checked through B+N gold and it was actually way more expensive).

Correct you are there is no working with a gt750 laptop and a gt650 video ultra bay. Yes they are sending out gt650 video cards when you have a gt750 laptop, you will get a error message immediately upon placing it in and turning on the laptop. It appears they got the Y500 card ready but did not get the Y400 card ready. In fact when you order on the site you still see a generic description of the card without a denotation as to whether its a 650 or a 750 card. Whereas you will see a description on the Y500 card. Beware people ensure your getting what you want prior to ordering, if not you'll be like me trying to fix this a Lenovo Sales & Support.

I've had the Y400 with 750M for almost 2 months already. What you see is the circle of 'marketing' as they keep rotating those deals every few weeks. The extra bay is still not available and according with what I was told they are focusing on this (which I doubt); it will probably take another few months to have the add-on card available (though I was told that it will take about 2 weeks).

Found this thread/post via a search.

Can you point to a source where mixed-GPU SLI works, in either desktop or mobile variants?

And cross-vendor SLI is possible? Really?
