So, after some thought, i'm thinking of pulling the trigger, and buying this little jewel off Lenovo Canada:
Y 15'' Removable Graphics GT750M5 | Lenovo | (CA)
Should come to 250$ with Tax, free shipping.
Best of all, i should be able to return it if it doesn't work. Or i can pawn it off eBay for the price i paid for it.
Now, after getting the M5, i was thinking of buying the Y400 GPU bezel from here:
90201961 - QIQY5 2ND VGA BEZEL
And then attaching it.
Is this a good idea?
-
Spare parts has no more Y-14" bezels. They had only one last month, until ember(?) bought it.
-
Well then i'll just wait until they release M4 bays or i will buy it off Ember.
-
So, you don't want to wait the result of 650m ultrabay(mix sli) seller from the Ebay?
-
2. I'd like to have native SLI support. -
Jobine it seems like Lenovo is not releasing the y410p SLI option I read in another thread that it is possible to buy the 650M and mix them for SLI got any knowledge of this?
-
-
Yeah, im actually thinking of returning mine, and then getting a y510p or something else.

But meh, don't feel like going laptopless for now. Especially with having exams in the next two weeks. Can't go back to my Inspiron 15 either, the fan makes grinding noises and the battery lasts half an hour, tops. -
Ah screw it. I'll keep it a few years and upgrade it when i will need to. The reason i bought it in the first place was because 6 months ago i was low on cash and this was a great deal for the price i paid (800$). Now i have more money, true, but frankly it's not like i need the extra performance, and i can just put that money into a future purchase of a nice future laptop.
-
Well at least the option of getting a 650m gt from the y400 and flahing a bios its still available tho, I just need to find someone who have actually done this to ask for advices and experiences :3.

It looks like we Lenovo has finally made an ultrabay 750m for the y410p!
A few weeks ago I was looking through their website and came across a gt750m5p card. I found it odd since they had already released the 750m for the 510p, so I went to read the description. The description said that it was for the 410p and the dimensions were a few millimeters smaller than the ultrabay for the 510p. It had the same price, $230 (US) and I was going to buy it, but a few days later it was gone. Since then I couldn't find any trace of it. Fast forward to today: I was checking out their site and seeing nothing, and then decided to google it. After googling "gt750m4p" I came across this: Y410p Removable Graphics GT750M4P | 888016118 | Lenovo | (VN)
It looks like this is available from resellers/business partners, or maybe you could order it over phone, but whatever the case, Lenovo has given it a product number, a model number, and a website, so it should soon be available for sale. And if you click the graphics cards subcategory ( Graphics Cards | Lenovo | (VN)) there will also be a gt755m card for the y510p.
Best regards,
Daniel -
I won't believe it until someone buys it and confirms it. But thanks for the find.

Availability is listed as "**"
No add to cart button either -
Yeah, it doesnt look like its for sale, but at least we know that it exists. If it makes it to the US is a whole other issue. Before this, the best evidence I had seen of the existence of this card was an old listing on Taobao. Also found the same card on Lenovo's US outlet. It has no price and is a dead link, but they have the model and part number, now on a US website. http://outlet.lenovo.com/SEUILibrar...1C5BB51B21465D96C353CC4CEF4801&&page-size=500
In case they remove it I'm attaching a screenshot of the site: -
I was able to get info/specs about it by comparing it to the y510p card. Still no price and a dead link, but it gave me the specs, including dimensions:

And for price (the add to cart button is a dead link,) the best I can say is $230 from when I saw it on the US site. -
Found it again on lenovo thailand. This one has a price of 7999 baht, which is about $244.

look at this site

he's selling his used GT750M4P. he included his email address there.
luckily for us asians, its very much possible for us to buy GT750m4p. bought mine for aroud 300 usd, im not from thailand so i had to import mine. it seems that it is only available in thailand for now. -
-
also, is the new y40 worth it? planning to trade my 410p once the y40 is available. please pardon my off topic question. -
I thought you guys might appreciate this; I have a Y410p with a GT755M and I just got it working in SLI using the GT755M Y510p ultrabay card here: Y510P Removable Graphics GT755M5 | Lenovo | (US)
Best part - the GT755M version is on sale for only $99!
The only reason why the physical dimensions were off is because of the bezel. I dremeled the bezel down to get it to fit, and ordered the module frame from Lenovo parts on the phone for the Y400 (Part# 90201962) that allows it to lock into the ultrabay port. This part cost me $35, and it's mechanically compatible with the Y410p.
The card itself is working fine, just dont want it to get pulled out while the laptop is powered on.
As far as I can tell I'm the only one to report in with details of a working Y410p SLI setup, so sharing information to help others. For $99 it's really a no-brainer as long as you're okay with putting in some work on the bezel. You could also purchase a bezel separately like from this ebay listing: 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay
Hope this helps others out there! Let me know if there are any pictures or steps that I can share. -
1) Have you tested it with some high end games? If yes, is it performing well?
2) Do you have any overheating issues?
3) It may be a stupid question, but you're using a 170V adapter, right?
4) Any issues with softwares/Bios etc.?
5) May I ask you to post some photos of the modified ultrabay?
6) If you can, I believe it might be useful if you specify which model do you have (model number, specs and eventual modifications you made previously)
Thanks in advantage, and I think that I wouldn't be wrong if I say that if you'll ever post a detailed guide of the procedure you followed, would be very much appreciated by a lot of us.
P.s. I apologize for grammar mistakes, I'm from Italy -
Happy to post more details over the weekend! For now, here's what I have:
1) Have you tested it with some high end games? If yes, is it performing well? - I haven't yet. I have my games on my HDD in a ultrabay caddy so I need to reinstall on my SSD to test. Do you have any specific games that you'd like me to test? I don't have all the latest ones but I have quite a few from 2013.
2) Do you have any overheating issues? - Yeah, it gets hot, and delta max has been +50C (24C to 74C under 3DMark load). Not terrible but hot air does vent out both sides with the SLI card.
3) It may be a stupid question, but you're using a 170V adapter, right? - You mean 170W? Yes
4) Any issues with softwares/Bios etc.? - Thankfully no. I know people had issues with Windows 8.1 and SLI. I hadn't updated to 8.1 yet, and the card was automatically detected in 8. I then updated the drivers and installed 8.1. SLI continued to work like a breeze.
5) May I ask you to post some photos of the modified ultrabay? - Yes. Excuse my horrible dremeling skills. WIll post in the next couple of days.
6) If you can, I believe it might be useful if you specify which model do you have (model number, specs and eventual modifications you made previously) - Sure. It's a Y410p (Model #59392484) running the i7-4770MQ. No software/BIOS mods were used, and the only "hardware" mods was what I described in my original post. -
1) Well, I'd suggest to use the most graphical demanding game you have at your disposal. I was thinking mostly to games like bioshock infinite, farcry 3 and Wildstar (not really demanding and you'll have to be in possess of one beta-key, but I'm gonna play it ALOT so if you have the chance please test it xD).
3) yeah I meant 170W
5) perfect, thanks. -
-
I only had a chance to run Bioshock Infinite Benchmarks. FC3 doesn't have an inbuilt benchmark engine, and I havent had the time to try Wildstar yet but I think BI should be pretty representative.
Here are the results, in all their glory (Also, I have the i7-4700MQ. I thought I had the i5, so that's incorrect on the chart below): (and PM me if you want the raw CSV data)
Backup of results in case Imgur is down:
Also, here are some pictures as promised.

**Grumble grumble**
Now I must concede: y410p performance > y400 performance. At least I still have better storage options haha
Edit: Why don't you use this for its bezel? 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay -
I am just curious to know what version BIOS version @pdinc has if he or she could tell us? I wonder if Lenovo fixed this silently and didn't release a BIOS update.
-
And yes the lack of storage expansion options hurts. There are still no good M.2 42mm SSD's on the market while mSATA already has relatively cheap 1TB. -
-
If a picture of the 755M's PCB could be posted, you could compare it with my photos of the 750M PCB to see if there are any obvious changes in component placement to see if there are any hardware straps. -
-
-
-
pdinc what's your bios version number?
As for me i'm running a 750M Y410p so i'm still very unsure if i should try this or not. -
-
-
-
(Assuming $21 covers shipping to Canada) -
Unless i find some good soul willing to do that, I'll have to try taobao for a gt755m4. -
-
VRAM is a different story though as 755M uses higher frequency/voltage memory which allows it to OC much higher, but based on personal experience the additional memory bandwidth makes very little difference on performance in SLI with this machine. -
-
@pdinc I have an ultrabay cover for the GPU for the y410p you can have for free if you want it. PM me.
